To me, nothing more than a life experience...

I would say that I am new in the world of anime. The only ones I really watched was Love Hina, Love Hina Again and Excel Saga just before I began watching Mahoromatic.

Being a production of one of the most known and praised anime studios of Japan, studio Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion), it really is a masterpiece of animation. The characters are incredibly drawn, the music is amazing... But the really amazing in the series is the plot.

It begins as Mahoro, the ultimate combat robot of an organization that has as a purpose to defend Earth from invading aliens, is coming to an end. It is therefore given the opportunity to either live as a warrior for 40 more days, or get all of her combat capabilities removed and live for 398 days. She chooses the second option and wishes to work as a maid for Suguru-kun, a 14-year orphan. But nothing always is at it seems and none can escape their past...

Mahoromatic begins as a comedy but towards the end it becomes more and more serious. I wouldn't like to spoil the fun by revealing any other details of the plot. As for the ending... well... it was a life experience to me...

This is an adult anime, given the fact that a lot of nudity and violence occurs. But this is not really what it's all about. The plot really is a treatise on life with a lot of philosophical questions arising, especially towards the end. I was really amazed by the characters, considering their cuteness (Ka...Kawaiiii....), their simplicity and their truly humanitarian views towards life. Even though one might seem that the approach is simplistic, it is really through this simplicity that this anime reveals all of it's virtues.

It's an amazing, an incredible piece of work, a masterpiece in my opinion. And it is such a masterpiece, that I really cannot describe my feelings when I saw the last two episodes. All I can hope for is for more. Please, Gainax... if someone of you is reading this... please... give us some more!

Extremely funny, extremely humane, extremely entertaining, extremely sentimental, extremely touching. Simply the best anime I've seen.

A fun series that provides laughs and drama

Mahoro is a combat android who has given solid service for 'Vesper' and organisation fighting off alien attack. She only has a limited lifetime left and is given the freedom to decide what to do with the final 398 days of her life... she decides to act as maid to Suguru Misato, the son of a senior officer who was killed by collateral damage caused by her. She gets involved with his life and friends but her past hasn't been entirely left behind as old foes come to fight her.

This anime series is rather fun; the premise may be a little odd but it works. There are plenty of laughs to be had, some tense moments and is genuinely poignant; especially towards the end as the clock counts down to the end of Mohoro's life. There is also a fair amount of nudity which does mean it might not be suitable for some viewers who would otherwise enjoy it. The animation is solid and, while the character designs are a bit dated now, I still thought they looked good. Overall a fun blend of comedy, fan service and drama.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Ecchi nano wo ikenai to omoimasu!

I strongly agree! This is another masterpiece from Gainax next to Evangelion. For once, a decent title and story, and very funny too! A great story about a war machine in the form of a lovely young lady, who defend the world from invading forces, now has 398 days left to go, she decides to spend it working as a maid, and conscience for a kind but PERVERTED teenager. Well not that perverted, let's just say he collects adult material like porn. And the supporting characters are also cool, especially that teacher, who is FAR MORE PERVERTED AND MORE OF A DEPRAVED TEACHER. Shame on her. Anyways, I am glad to say it is good, but it is not suitable for all ages, violence and useless nudity. Good for young adults, and I must say that Mahoro is one kind girl, and pure, I just like her saying Ecchi nano wo ikenai to omoimasu, which means perversion is not good, or something. Recommneded for 18 and above, sorry those below 15.

One of the funniest moments in this show is when Shikijo-sensei says "what are you all doing here? Could it be that you are having a sex party without me? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Definately a touching funny anime

I swear, Mahoro is such a badass robot maid that she definitely is the queen of strong heroines. I seriously think herself and Suguru would be the best couple to match. They just looked so cute together!

Made for laughs anime, definately a watch!

    A great series

Like the previous commentator mentioned, another masterpiece from Gainax.

For the first couple of episodes, the viewer is deceived into believing that Mahoromatic is (yet) another brainless comedy relying on casual nudity and perversion to hook the audience. However, there are some underlying factors that save the series from being otherwise generic - Mahoro's limited time, character development, and the story climaxes beautifully at the end (although there is also some obscurity).

A sweet romance (mixed with sci-fi combat), to say the least. Funny in its casual moments, and emotional in its serious moments, Mahoromatic is a unique and enjoyable take on the battle maid genre.

Mahoro Ando: [upon finding Suguru's collection of "adult" magazines] I think that dirty thoughts are very bad. And you want to know what else I think? I think that women's breasts are important vessels which exist to provide nourishment for babies, and should never be looked at lewdly by a young male person. I am certain that your mother taught you that important lesson when she raised you, and yet there you are looking at women's breasts inside a dirty magazine with lewdness in your eyes. I understand the general tendency of the magazines you collect, but women with large breasts have to bear a large burden because of it, and I hear they suffer from bad backs. And most importantly, a woman's ability as a mother doesn't have anything to do with the size of her breasts.
