Avis à la une
Defenatly a movie for all flight-fans out there. The aerial-photography is wonderful, i find it much better then in Top Gun. Compared to Iron Eagle, its no competition. The director has set a new standard in aviation movies. Its high, well above 25,000ft. I think there is more flying in this movie then in Top Gun And Iron Eagle put together. Yes some acting is not the best and you don't watch a movie like this one because of the intricate plot. Its all about fast military jets! Another great thing is that you don't have to listen to cheesy lines like in the other two mentioned movies. Kick the tires and light the fires, lean back and enjoy the ride.
The film deals about a pair braves pilots, a young studs, on the ground and in the air, the captain Antoine Walk Marchelli(Benoit Maginel) and captain Fahrenheit(Clovis Cornillac), both commanding a Mirage fighter jets. They're assigned to locate an aircraft flying behind a commercial plane. The rare aircraft shots and the Marchelli's jet spontaneously shot, saving his pal. Meanwhile the French High Command orders recruiting pilots team with his American counterparts, a women pilots, on a flight missions. However captain Antoine is accused and dismissed from the Air Force, being forced to work in commercial aviation. But they return to Air Force on a secret mission. They fly to Middle East in order to vanquish American F-14 Fighter, but they are been taken prisoners.
This is a overwhelming comic-book with suspense, dogfighting with spectacular flight scenes and some commercial elements, like the catching music . Full of French jingoist ideals, dubious ethics and crack fighter pilots . The film moves like a supersonic bullet for most of its running time and the last generation Jets steal the show. Contrived beyond belief with spectacular dogfights that play like video games, but slickly calculated to please 2000s audiences. The movie follows the wake of ¨Top Gun, Iron Eagle I and sequels¨. Agreeable casting, though unknown, exception to Benoit Maginel with various success(Crimson Rivers 2, Flower of evil, Nest and Piano player) and Phippe Torreton(Captain Conan, Cursed monarchy, All starts today) as Bertrand. The motion picture is professionally directed by Gerad Pires, a director and writer with wide and long career since the 70s(Agression), until today(Riders, Taxi). Rating : Acceptable and passable, no boring , but is quite entertaining.

Admitedly this film is somewhat lacking in film techniques and complexity, but the reason for this is not that it is a bad film but rather a film with a different aim. With so many films coming out every year it is unavoidable that they be judged and compared, but this constant rating of films has created a certain stereotype of qualities which a film should have to be good. This kind of stereotyped rating, although often setting a good standard for comparison, works against films such as Sky Fighters. This is because in my opinion Sky Fighters has a different goal to most movies, rather than using the common methods to deliver a complex story line, Sky Fighters is a tribute to fighter pilots. It does an excellent job of portraying the complexity and importance of the role of a fighter pilot, as well as demonstrating the qualities a pilot must posses. Sky Fighters uses all real flying and aerobatics footage to achieve a very real demonstration, from the technical aspect, of what it means to be a fighter pilot. This film is very appropriate for anyone interested in fighters, aerobatics and the people behind them. I do not recommend it for audiences looking for a sophisticated or complex storyline.
Year 2005/2006. What is this? Rubbing my eyes, checking the cover of DVD - Chevaliers du ciel, Les - yes, it is a french movie. Like so many Hollywood cookings, much aerial stunts, breath-taking sky- punctures through clouds and blue pilots heaven. Seen so many fighter-movies, but this is a bullseye. Not for a story - many weak characters, but the real bold ones, the planes themselves.
Mirage was a good choice. Delta-wings gives extra speed and maneuverable feelings with most important fact that those planes were real ones. Real pilots and real surroundings. Only scene over Paris was partly manipulated.
Goodbye Top Gun and so many ridiculous computer aided movies. I won't search for goofs, it's not relevant.
Female-must-frame-in-the-film act was filled with nice-faced Alice Taglioni and the others, but the they did not have the charm of Mme Géraldine Pailhas, who has those faces to hold in memory.
French icon Benoît Magimel got more to keep going on.
My vote is mostly for authentic aviation.

That's a great movie and all aircrafts lovers should see it. Awesome aerial stunts with no special effects on board - please!!. Despite an average end and a weird story, the comedy is here. Great casting, hot girls, and 100% full-loaded adrenalin planes. Top gun finally have a challenger. Everyone is waiting for critics and comparison, but as far as i'm concerned sky fighters (US title) is far better than his older brother... The shooting is so neat and the sights are simply outstanding. The director as well as the pilots did a really good job. Waiting for an Hollywood reply... but the task will be tough! OH Yeah! Very good french action movie by the way, and i hope it will have the same success abroad. CAUTION: Do not forget to fasten your belt. 2 thumbs up !

- AnecdotesThe flight sequences from the film were all filmed with actual planes and aerial photography, without the use of CGI. In order to capture the high-speed maneuvers, a specially-designed camera was attached to a Mirage 2000 aircraft which then tailed the 'star planes' as they flew, for only another Mirage 2000 could actually fly at speeds that matched the planes being filmed. The traditional film camera, which was specially constructed with lenses facing forward, backward, to the side, and downward, was installed inside an empty fuel pod and built by Dassault, the aircraft consortium which constructed the Mirage 2000. Using a digital HD camera had been considered early on, but because of its size, it was simply too large to be squeezed into the tank. Because of space requirements, the pod camera could only hold 4 minutes of film, which had to be specially shielded from the elements and sealed in an airtight compartment to prevent the pressure and temperature differences at altitude from damaging it. In addition, the camera could not be controlled by hand, as it was located within the tank, nor could it be controlled electronically by wire, as the tank had to be easily detachable from the plane so it could be swapped from one Mirage 2000 to another on refueling to prevent the daily shooting schedule from falling behind. Thus, a special radio control system was devised, so that the pilot of the Mirage 2000 could activate the camera at will. However, this too had many problems to work out, as the radio frequency could not interfere with the regular operations of the aircraft, nor could it possibly jam air-to-ground communications. Finally, however, a proper system was devised to allow the camera to be activated remotely. For tracking shots where using the Mirage 2000 camera was not practical, a Lear jet was flown in from Southern California in the United States, and used for about a week at great expense. Due to all these concerns and complications, director Gérard Pirès and his aerial-photography team had to carefully plan each shot with storyboards, something the director normally does not do. However, he said in a question and answer session after the film's screening on at the City of Lights - City of Angels Los Angeles Film Festival on April 7th, 2006 that the time limitations on the film actually did not hinder production, as they required thought and economy towards the shots being attempted, and also as the Mirage 2000 plane itself had to refuel every 45 minutes. The director took great pride in the fact that he was able to use this camera to capture the incredible look and feeling of flight, without resorting to using the computer to manipulate his images.
- GaffesThe Royal Australian Air Force officer is introduced as General Hudson. The RAAF doesn't have army ranks. It has ranks like the British RAF so he should have been called Air Chief Marshall Hudson. Also his uniform was not one from the RAAF.
