Alien: Containment

Had a chance to watch this and being an Alien fan I had to watch it.

From decent to great acting. Well shot. Good short story. I had one minor issue with it but I would watch it again. It definitely left you wanting to know more.

Of course with the creature rarely making an appearance will create a greater horror to the film. But that was just a chestburster right?? It can't be that dangerous (except the fact if they open the door, the chestburster can escape and grew into an adult easily, cause lots of deaths in the station).

... but I won't give it away. All I can say is it really did A L I E N justice!

Containment really manages to settle itself into the Alien universe perfectly. In fact, the best part of the short is the story it didn't tell, as the plot itself is actually an aftermath of a prior Xeno infestation on a now destroyed vessel. Though Gaia Wess' character is kind of a 'non-character', Theo Biggs manages to set the tone with his frantic, if not slightly hammy performance as a terrified and paranoid crewmember. Unfortunately, the Wey-Yu doctors' performance was probably the weakest of three, but she still gets the job relatively well done.

I also appreciate the risk of adding a bit of dark humour to the short in the post-credit scene, something that could have totally ruined the entire short if botched. Overall, a pretty damn good short that captures the aesthetics and tone of Alien very well.

It's always painful to watch newbie directors think of themselves as showboating their talent, when in fact all they are doing, like an excremental peacock, are showing how turgid, uninspired, talentless and insipid their creative "powers" can really be.

Derivative, lazy, indulgent, uninteresting, uninspired, unoriginal, it ultimately fails even as a kind of fan-made fan-fic type schlock which has a v low bar to cross.

I suppose if a director has absolutely no creative talent or ideas themselves, they can try and ape the tropes and genres of others - as is done here - but on this occasion it fails even on those sparse parameters.

If it were a choice between the eating/selling of cheese cakes or directing films for a living - I would advise the director to stick to cheesecake- the abyss where his talent might be is fathomous. Stop boring audiences please.
