Filho de Boi

The film is very naturalistic, portraying hinterlands with a careful cinematography and a kind of color neorealism. Despite a fragrant technical effort to produce an arthouse film, without any single scene made sloppily, outcome is irregular. It is sluggish, unfocused, almost pointless. The movie is too fragmented, both in cinematography (I said that it is careful, and it is beautiful, but there are too many confusing scenes which do not allow to understand the places and what is going on) and in edition and script. There are a complex family background and a problem of bullying, but the movie takes too much time to show them. It would not be a problem if the script had portrayed many situations derived from those problems, and the lack of that information had contributed to spectator's curiosity. However, that was not the case, as not much happened previously. The circus is the scape to that boy, that was clear since the beginning, but the clown universe was not developped for itself either. The main character and obviously Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos have emotionally strong performances, but the other boys have an interaction among themselves which is difficult to follow and it is even hard to understand at least partially what they talk to each other.
