Well, this is certainly an indie film. It's the feature length debut of director Zach Gayne and it shows. This will divide people into two camps, those who can't get past the inherent flaws, and those who are willing accept them and see the film on it's level.
The lack of budget makes itself known in a handful of ways. It's incredibly minimal in both story and production. The sound and visual are understated, delivering the essentials but never dazzling. The majority of the film takes place in a suburban home and mainly features two actresses who also happened to moonlight as the film's screenwriters. The performances occasionally have that stiff, "made for TV movie" vibe, but as things heat up, the two leads do put their all into their roles and make it work. Stoner heiress Precious Chong really brings her character to life, impressively portraying insanity through subtle facial quirks. There are some moments that are as funny as they are sad, almost allowing you to sympathize with the psychopath, before the inevitable violent payoff. The resolution felt a bit half-hazard, but not maddeningly open ended.
If you were to compare this film to like, a Christopher Nolan movie, then they're barely even the same art form. But compared to the student films that are more rightfully it's peers, it's coherent and doesn't overstay it's welcome, so you could do a lot worse.
