Avis à la une
Mahira is not a good choice for the movie she look bit old and unconvincing for the girl next door character like Noorie
Blal ashraf is surprising big revelation
Nadeem baig , marina khan and Asma abbas completely wasted
Ali Kazmi and Aliza shah stand out in their respective parts
Music is below average
The engaging Bekaran sound track comes in end titles when half of the audience left the hall
Overall film work in bits and parts but obviously shallow script and ordinary music will not save this much at the box office
Hope eid will benefit this business-wise
Eid Mubarik 😊
Superstar has all the trappings of a good film. A potential storyline, a skillful director, A Superstar headlining the film and an amazing soundtrack.. However the film utilizes all of these elements in places and comes the 2nd half, the charm is lost to a rushed ending without much coherence.
Superstar could easily have been the film of the year. However it fails to rise above. The screenplay ruins a potential story in the 2nd half and character motivations are left unexplained. Little time is used on the development than a few unnecessary scenes.
The direction of the film is just adequate. Despite a few creative blocking choices by Ehteshammudin, the rest is handled with ignorance leaving one in doubt whether this was the same director who directed the masterpiece Sadqay Tumharay and the gritty Udaari.
The screenplay sets the story in quite majesty, however after a major plot twist, it never picks itself up. One of the major blunders done was the lack of scenes showing Noor's struggle and Sameer Khan's character which is left mostly in grey. After that a scene here and there, Mahira showing her acting chops, Bilal struggling to deliver, a death scene, An effortless and nostalgic Nadeem Baig and boom; an anticlimactic end, trying to make up for what cannot be redeemed.
However it is not easy to ignore the film's strengths. Thebiggest being Mahira Khan. Like the rest of her films post-Raees, Mahira too is the major draw and saving grace of the film. While given the margin to perform, in just a two minute scene, she leaves you in awe of how much versatile she is i-e the theater sequence. The rest is also handled in subtlety. Despite a few things not visually shown, Khan makes her character relatable and delivers an authentic and strong performance. However she still has to give a career best. Nadeem Baig definitely added grace to the film. The soundtrack was amazing and so was the background score, probably one of the bests from the recent Pakistani films.
Superstar has a well thought out story which the director failed to visually express in all its glory also due to a shoddy screenplay. Had the treatment been better, it would have been the film of the year

I really liked the movie but it had a very short story but the acting and experience were great
Not many reviews at the time of writing, most are 10/10. This is most definitely not a 10/10 movie, I gave it 7/10 to say slightly above average but no more. It's not a memorable movie but typical Pak/Bollywood with loads of songs and story and a good enough watch for its Eid release.
Whilst Mahira Khan was clearly the best in the movie, her role almost personifies her current status as the top if not one of the top Pakistani leading ladies. She has the swagger to pull off her role. Bilal Ashraf was good too although not on MK's level.
The songs I won't comment on too much as they're not my forte, Anjaana by Atif Aslam and Noori were probably my favourites. My issue with the songs were they felt like too many and at times made the movie feel like a long music video.
TLDR: good enough movie to watch over Eid.
PS 1/10 reviews are likely due to some political scenes between Pak/India and should be disregarded.

The reason why I hated the Bollywood movies is because of the songs thrown in the middle of the movies. It ruins the storyline, and think about it, does that ever happen in real life? Out of blue, a bunch of idiots start dancing? Like why?! Why would you ever put that into a movie?! Secondly, a hero, goes around and start fighting with everyone. Or sometimes, one guy fighting 10 people at once. Like seriously, why can't you be more realistic? And I am amazed that people like that kind of nonsense. Its just shameful to see Pakistani media tries to copy bollywood, which is the worst industry in the world. Better to have no film industry than a worst one.
