They aren't kidding about calling this film an uplifting drama! I laughed, I cried, I felt my heart pound out of my chest! This film narrates a beautiful story we've all heard some version of - the miracle of Juan Diego and the Lady of Guadalupe. This movie, on the out set, may appear to be only for Latinos, but, as a non-Latino person, it offers a new insight into the Latino culture and heritage that is not generally available to most people. Today, amid a global pandemic and heightened racial tensions around the world, this film offers a sense of renewed hope and confidence in a brighter tomorrow, even when the night is darkest. This is a movie that every individual, Latino or not, Catholic/Christian or not, Guadalupan believer or not, should watch. It relates a story we have all heard at least once to the experiences of a Latino today and reminds us all to "have a little faith" and believe in tomorrow's rising sun.
I appreciated watching a modern narrative alongside the historical narrative. It shows that, although the Lady of Guadalupe story happened hundreds of years ago, the lessons from the story can still be applied to today. In addition to the strong narratives, I also thoroughly enjoyed the performances of the cast and the stunning cinematography.
An incredible story about such a crucial part of both Latin and Catholic history/culture. The film itself was shot so beautifully and I very much enjoyed the ethereal cinematography. It will leave you speechless. The talent is amazing as well. 10/10!
A reporter for a Latin newspaper is given the assignment of writing an article about faith in that community. The boss tells John that he should be proud of his Latin background, as he is the typical secular American young man. He decides to investigate Our Lady of Guadalupe, using a Jesuit priest as a source. His wife is injured badly in a car accident and he struggles with the reality of the story and his wife's recovery. The film travels back and forth from modern day society and 1531 Mexico. The actors are fine and the story a bit contrived as the couple is shown as a perfect pair. The religious aspects are well done, and as a struggling Catholic, I was moved by the scenes of the appearance of Mary to Juan Diego, even though I am well versed in the history of the story. I highly recommend Lady of Guadalupe.
Too predictable, dialogue and script too naive as if written by college or maybe high schoolers; it's forced, and too simple in its dialogue that it tends to leave the viewer with more questions of who wrote the screenplay.
