Avis à la une
I rounded it up to a four, cause it's probably a 3.5 in my opinion. Which is low for a slasher for me. It's low budget and what you'd expect for this type of movie. Obviously someone on the crew got a new drone for Christmas! I did laugh at the Cop interrogation scene for some dumb reason, lots of 80s references for old dudes like me. But why on earth was this over 2 hours? Why? Was this directed by Kevin Costner? Someone should cut this down to about 80 minutes and it would have been way better! So much unnecessary filler! A few too many throwbacks / references to Sleepaway Camp but I guess with the star of that in this that makes sense to me. For Camp Slasher fans only!
Was suggested it today and It took me a long time to finish. The movie paid a lot of homage to classic camp slashers like Friday the thirteenth and Sleepaway camp but the execution as poor. Camera work was not bad and a couple of the death scenes were shot really well to make up for the lack of budget to pull a large scale death off but thats really where it ends. Not a single character is likable and you really dont have any connection to them at all. For someones first movie I do see a lot of promise but I think more direction needs to be given to the actors. Everything felt forced and not even remotely organic. Given a a more experienced cast I would watch the directors work again.
When I stumbled upon the 2021 horror comedy "Bloody Summer Camp", here late in 2022, of course I opted to watch it, as it was a movie that I hadn't already seen. And I will say that the movie definitely seemed like it could be an enjoyable movie to watch, as it seemed like a movie that would be poking fun at the traditional slasher genre.
So I watched what writer and director David Kerr had to offer. And since I had never actually heard about "Bloody Summer Camp", then he had every opportunity to entertain and bedazzle me.
Well, "Bloody Summer Camp" was a low budget movie, and not an overly great one at that. The storyline was actually fair enough, but the movie was just permeating low budget and subpar production all round, so it was not particularly enjoyable movie to watch. The comedy that was in the movie didn't fall into my liking, and the acting performances was wooden and rigid.
For a horror comedy then "Bloody Summer Camp" didn't step up when it mattered. This is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on.
My rating of "Bloody Summer Camp" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars.

This was a fun indie horror camp slasher. Acting was good and had some good laugh out loud moments. Definitely felt they did a good job bringing back that 80's nostalgia. Dave Sheridan was hysterical. Had a good twist. Definitely not going to win any awards but I don't think that's what they were going for. If you like indie horror films set a camp. I definitely think it's worth a watch. Run time was a little long but it doesn't feel like it takes forever to get the story going either.
I rounded up my rating. This movie is a 2 most of the way, but a 7 for the last 30 mins. I don't know why the movie is sooooo long. This movie would be much better if they tried to take out 30-40 minutes of it. I think most people would probably tune the movie off 20 minutes in, because really nothing much happens, and it's a shame, because the last half hour really saves this movie if you make it through the first half.
Most of the acting is bad, scenes aren't cut the way they should be, and some of the lighting of scenes is too dark. The sound effects are good where they were used, but there's several scenes that could have used some kind of background sound and it was completely lacking - it's almost as if they switched editors for the last hour of the film.
