Avis à la une
The setup and evidence just seemed too "good" to be true; and the inclusion of real-life, respected, former "Ghost Hunters" member Steve Gonsalves really helped to sell it, but at about the 1:35 mark credibility went out the window. A secret, new approach is attempted; and the situation becomes so contrived, and the reactions so in-authentic that the "documentary" went from being an amazing, in-depth, legit, paranormal investigation, to just a pretty lazy indy horror film. Actually, let me say that that was the last straw, since credibility was strained beforehand with some hammy reactions from the actors, and one suspiciously well-timed cat cameo. I was trying to figure out if Haunted Saginaw was the real deal, and descriptions of Mr. Shippy's "organization" are all suspiciously cagey; but I know a very scripted plot twist when I see one. It was fairly intriguing until that point, but once the balloon was popped it all became just a wasted 90 minutes... why even finish it?
The evidence they claim to have is vague and inconclusive. There are more than just two people on their team and any one of them could slam doors or make footstep noises. I would like to actually see them investigate the noises they hear instead of just talking about it and then cutting to something else. They don't seem very surprised by any of the thumps or door slamming that happens. This, in my opinion, is an "investigation" trying to be a TV show or movie. I've seen better footage of investigations on YouTube.
I don't think that this film or any the others in this collection are "staged." If staging were going on, we'd have a lot more spectacular developments, such as in Blair Witch. I think the investigators, producers, and haunting victims are sincere. I don't say I necessarily believe something supernatural is occurring. Nor do I deny it. Perhaps if I did believe, the show would have made more of an effect on me. So I think the ultimate impression the show will make on the viewer will depend so much on what the viewer brings to it. The various phenomena being investigated are interesting, and I watched with the idea of perhaps I could furnish a non-metaphysical explanation. The film held my interest. But if you militantly disbelieve, you should find alternate entertainment.
Regardless of my skeptical nature, I found this to be interesting. Entertaining at the very least. One must take any produced piece with a grain of salt, and that's no different with this. In comparison to previous installments of this series, the quality has improved quite a bit. Not only in actual production, but in their investigatory method. There are still some "cringe" moments here and there ("mediums" and the like), as well as that typical 'spooky" music whatnot, but that seems almost mandatory with these things (for some reason). While the overall quality has improved, there is still evidence presented that asks quite a bit of me to take at face value. Even though it isn't anything over-the-top, there are times where it feels too much is being made of mundane occurrences, which tarnishes the validity of other findings with doubt.
This entire show series seems too scripted.....
From the first entry to the last exit....
I tried to keep watching....but ended up laughing.
There are some truths to paranormal involved, but it's mainly scripts and bad actors.
