New Order: Krafty

Guess now I can call this music video a classic. Released 20 years ago, New Order's "Krafty" had its fair run on TV but wasn't much of a big hit as a single (from the same album, "Jetstream" was a little more known). Yet I loved everything about the song and the video, with its crazed point of view while a teenage couple, who also happens to be co-workers at a textile factory, share a moment of intimacy. The clip revolves on their routine, then they come to an apartment and have a long makeout session that gets them ready for bed action. Director Johan Renck presents the action in a vertical spinning manner, with the camera making circle movements that go in a peculiar unique view, somewhat disorienting to some.

A beautiful intimate moment between boy and girl that escapes the romantic cliche due to its unusual sequences and the detailed expressions, movements and involvement from both parties. You can sense a formed connection between them that leads to a jubilee moment at the building rooftop.

It's one of New Order's finest videos and finest songs too, from the "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" album, the first without Gillian Gilbert and introducing Phil Cunningham. The group is only present through the audio, one of those tunes you get easily hooked yet for reasons unknown it's also one of those only fans of the group enjoy it. To me, it brings back many memories as I was getting to know New Order and this very video was like everywhere since it marked their return after "Get Ready", four years earlier. It was special in everything. 10/10.
