Summer Hit

There are some individual elements of this short film that seem generic to the romantic genre - the music is the most obvious, but also some of the events of the narrative. As I noticed this it struck me that usually I really dislike this type of thing, and will be turned off by it. It struck me because I was really enjoying this and was actually being drawn in by the same elements that would normally be the last straw for a generic romance. The film achieves this by how natural and frank it is for the most part. The people feel real, the location of the European city feels vibrant and alive as a place, and it generally makes you feel like part of it.

Technically this is well done with use of locations, lighting, colouring etc to give it that pop of summer in Europe. The performances bring home the script, selling these people and making it feel like a real window into a small moment in their lives (overall). This grit in the film helps it and makes the polish work well, producing an engaging romantic comedy that has grounding and reality through it.

I was seduced by its innocence. By the realism of gestures and dialogues. By old fashion romance , sure, with new nuances, but so gentle, touching and admirable. Two young students in foreign country . And a love story who seems so... beautiful in each of its sides, without be idealized , not giving a cool or pink portrait but natural and real refreshing. So, just beautiful.
