Sure, the box at the beginning is somewhat mysterious. Sure. There a lot of photographs. Sure, they have the year written on them. Sure, it seems that the protagonist is in one of them.
And this is supposed to be horror? If it is, I'll need somebody to explain it to me.
Maybe if they had taken a few more than the allotted five minutes, this may have hung together better. Maybe they could have explained where the box came from.
The trivia statement did elucidate why this restrictions were applied, but still, even within those parameters, I'm sure a better job could have been done.

Obvious low budget short film , few familiar cliches, a polaroid, two lamps and out bulbs as basic pieces, the hands of the lead actor as useful tool for tension, few photos and a story to imagine by viewer.
A decent short film, tensioned more than horror but nice.

There were a few moments when I wasn't entirely sure if this was a horror film or a crime thriller. In the end, I'd say it's definitely horror-which is exactly why I chose to watch it. That said, I wouldn't have been disappointed even if it had leaned more into crime thriller territory. The concept of receiving a mysterious camera along with a set of photos works well in either genre.
That being said, the core idea behind Polaroid-including the film's title-has been heavily used in horror. This short hits most of the expected tropes for this kind of story, including the classic "take a photo of a dark corner and reveal a lurking creature." There's not much novelty here, aside from the addition of the pre-included batch of photos, which I actually found quite engaging.

This was a chilling short and left me wanting more! The sound and lighting design was very well done. Although the premise of the short left me wondering, I don't necessarily find this to be a bad thing. I love when films linger with me after the viewing experience. Great work!

- AnecdotesStatement from director Ben Schwartz, during an FAQ about the film: "The initial concept of this film was created for more of a challenge than an actual written idea. The objective was to make a five minute short film without any equipment, other than a camera and a tripod. Without any audio equipment during shooting, there could be no dialogue, and all sounds had to be re-imagined with Foley. All basic lighting had to be done with practical light sources. A lamp near our character and another to fill the room was all that was used to create what you see on screen. [I'd been] making short films ever since I was little, and never had the resources for a cast, crew, or budget for filming. Having to improvise with the few tools I had, I'm proud to have finished what I didn't even believe was possible before I started with the few resources I had available.
