Avis à la une
I've read the reviews and it seems the ignorance that we're living a in a pandemic is not lacking.
I understood perfectly that the show was written and shot with the limitations of the 2020 pandemic in mind, most characters have been paired in groups to minimise interaction as a whole, most scenes were confined to one or a few locations, with the exception of Amos, for whom it was business as usual.
On the Alex / Cas Anvar issue... well, we live in the cancel culture zoomer times. It's unfortunate that the showrunners jumped the gun and already "convicted" the actor and it's unfortunate how his on-screen end came like this. It's undoable if the accusations prove to be exaggerated or won't lead to anything concrete legally wise, which should be the actual basis for anything done to an individual professionally wise. But, as I've seen in the past, these types of people can and do hide perfectly well under a veil of deceptive appearances. They appear decent enough to pass as nice guys. But what the truth is is up to the investigators to uncover.
As for the end, I did not expect that. Good show, gents!

Thanks to cas anvar and his portrayal of alex - my favourite char in the show. 6 stars because of the special effects and the actors in this season portraying marcos, drummond and avasarala. Very odd that a char who is there from the beginning is written off like that while another char's pain is agonized for more than 2 episodes. Not only that but the reaction afterwards from others supposed to be buddies is lacking. Makes the actors lose crediblilty. Even if the char would somehow return in the next season (hell, this is fantasy fiction, anything can happen) it would be pointless and shallow. Generally speaking, the weak point for me in the writing is that the story of smaller supporting actors isn't told through but in best cases just mentioned by another char; at the same time too much focus and time is invested on other chars so that there's a gap like with the actor and actress appearing in episode 2 i believe shortly with alex and then suddenly re-appearing at the end of the last episode - i'm like "who are these people again?". The overall story away from the chars felt weak and actually non-existent.
I love this show, particularly for its detail cogency and cohesiveness, it is perfectly written and acted... but this season took a bit longer than I would have liked with plot progression; some people enjoy a lot of family drama, not me, so agree to disagree -- I imagine the point of it has been to develop Naomi's son and set him up for the next/last season (along with a new pilot for the Roci), but aside from the last 5 mins of this episode, are we really satisfied with only this much having occurred (for the most part) in 6 whole episodes?! The macro development to the inter-Earth/Mars/Belter/Ring situations (that usually sells it for me in this show) definitely took a hard second seat this season. Underwhelming, especially given the incremental weekly release schedule this time around... Still love the show though! and looking forward to whatever the final season (😢) has in store for us!!
edit: rctripp's 3rd February review hits the nail on the head! Plz bring back Season 3 vibes!!

The Expanse is really a unique show; and it's setting the bar for space battles in shows and movies, to a whole new level for the sci-fi space opera genre. The big negative for me, was how they ended a great and impactful character(character not actor) without a build up to it or even an eulogy or a proper farewell for that character's journey from the very first episode of the show! For the rest i assume(i hope) they're building up the final season to be that much more climactic.
The unrelenting focus on Naomi and her doomed relationship with her estranged son and his father spoiled this season for me. All other characters and plotlines faded into the peripheral background as we were constantly confronted with Naomi's emotional turmoil - which personally began to bore me rigid.
And the last four episodes could have been easily been condensed into one in order to propel the plot forward. Instead we were just treading water.
Such an anti-climax and disappointment overall - even if the final episode whetted our appetite for what is to come in Season 6.
Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesThe title of this episode will most certainly be "Nemesis Games" as the last episode of each season is the title of the corresponding book.
- GaffesThe length of Amos's beard changes between scenes while on Luna.

Jim Holden: That's right. But this isn't a fight we can stay out of.
