    Missed potential!

Pichaikkaran 2, the spiritual sequel to its predecessor, falls victim to terrible writing and execution, which ultimately destroys the exciting premise of brain transfer from a poor protagonist to a wealthy individual. Despite a moving story centered around the struggles of the poor lead character, the film's downfall lies in the hands of the lead actor who took over the role of writing and directing.

The overreliance on sentimentality and cringe-inducing scenes detracts from the potential impact of the story. While the movie attempts to explore themes of identity and social justice, it falls short in its execution, resulting in a disappointing viewing experience.

It is a movie marred by weak writing, unrealistic courtroom scenes, and an unsatisfying climax...

    Proved letdown

The film, Pichaikkaran 2, was written and directed by Vijay Antony, who also plays the protagonist.

The film's narrative commences with a brain transplantation surgery between Vijay Gurumurthy and Sathya. Vijay Gurumurthy is a prominent figure in the business community, having assumed control of his family's enterprise from his father. Sathya is a beggar who has spent the majority of his life incarcerated and is still searching for his missing sister, who disappeared during his childhood. The manager and two acquaintances of Vijay Gurumurthy deceived them both and transported them to undergo a brain transplantation procedure. Their objective was to acquire the wealth of Vijay Gurumurthy. The body of Vijay received Sathya's brain, while Sathya's body was exempted. However, following the surgery, he did not comply with their requests. Despite their wishes, he attempted to reveal these secrets and subsequently killed them, relinquishing their bodies in the ocean. He began to distribute Vijay's wealth among the impoverished. Additionally, he initiated a programme named 'Anti bikili', which aimed to provide essential items at the lowest cost.

Following a short time, the remainings of three individuals had been confiscated from the ocean and a growing number of people became aware of the existence of brain transplantation. In the film's concluding scenes, the protagonist was arrested on charges of man-changing. However, the police assisted him in locating Sathya's sister.

The film is of mediocre quality, with an unappealing narrative and poor production values. The performances are also lacklustre, with some scenes merely entertaining adult audiences. It is unclear why a snake is frequently featured in the first half of the film. Taken together, these factors make the film an unrecommended viewing.

    This film can be avoided

Pichaikkaran 2, directed by Vijay Antony, is an avoidable film covering many predictable things. The story is about two men whose brains are transplanted and one of the men has to lead a new life with his new memories. Even though the concept was intriguing at first, writing has been one of the biggest minuses. The writing has been predictable and offers nothing new other than the first 20 minutes. The screenplay was in a predictable manner and written in a melodramatic way. The flashback and second half were melodramatic and not properly used for the film. The direction was absolutely wasted and did not create any spark or interest in the film. It neither helped improve the movie to be more interesting. The performances were decent and could have been better for the film. The performances felt like they were artificial. Coming to the technicalities, the cinematography was rich and looked great on screen but the VFX was poorly crafted. It was clearly visible on the screen that a green screen was being used. The editing was decent but could have been better. Overall, the film is avoidable and could save time for the viewers.

    An overrated 🚫 Film

I had a great expectation for watching the movie but the first half moved very slowly and even after watching the movie I don't understand why they have been showing the rattle snake now and then... The interval scene made goosebumps.. I atleast expected the second half to be better but that also made me disappointed... Acting was also not upto the mark and the same sentimental scenes were given by Vijay Antony... It was completely impractical and over sentimental... I don't think it's worth spending 3 hrs of time for it! Heroine had no much roles and other casts were also of little importance.. the theme music was good and the voice over was better only that made the movie live.

    A wasted opportunity

So Satya, a beggar looking for his lost sister, gets the opportunity to live the life of a billionaire when the people close to the billionaire transfer his life and memories into the body of the billionaire in return for a simple enough demand - be the face for the billionaire's company so the plotters can get rich. What happens when the two parties get into a conflict, and will Satya eventually find his sister?

The plot for the movie is simple enough and it employs an oft used concept - the conflict between living a rich but controlled life and living a poor but free one. The stakes in this case are the knowledge of a crime committed by the evil party and the search for a long lost loved one. With Satya unable to reveal the crime given how silly explaining things would be, and being unable to search for his sister given his new billionaire image, the simplistic plot setup is fairly convincing. But the payoffs feel forced. What happens once Satya and the plotters get into conflict for instance, ruins the entire movie. He just kills them all

Still, the movie manages to bring up interesting concepts post this as Satya forces himself to live the life of a billionaire. If you think about it, it is a neat little concept. Pichaikaran 1 made the protagonist live the life of a beggar, and the roles are reversed in the second part. The problem is, not many would relate to a conflict like this. With the plotters out of the way, Satya could simply live life on his own terms. The past few days could simply have counted for a swift change in fortunes and he could now have lived the life of a multi billionaire. And it's here that he movie gets fantastical and loses its real world connect. And it's also here that the script writers unleash a whole political economical disaster that is laughable and utterly absurd. Satya launches a program called anti bikili- what's with the name? Duh nothing. Just needed a catchphrase is all. They now get subsidised food, groceries, homes and everything, and there is a strong demand from that all billionaires should do something similar. The entire concept of a free market is thrown under a bus. How will this be sustained for instance? Resources after all, are limited. Product prices at the end of the day are majorly determined by the free market in modern times. Supply shortage at the end of the day, will drive prices up. Duh this is what happens when you try to get too smart but don't really understand what you're doing.

As with all mainstream Tamil movies, keep your brains in the car or in the fridge before you turn this one on. A beggar who's been in jail, probably never fired a bullet before, can accurately shoot a moving target hundreds of meters away in the beach with the wind blowing in his face. And oh he can drive a motorboat. And he's an economist. And he knows the law. And he can bash up 50 thugs at a time. WHATTT?! The moral compass of the movie is... mob rule is legitimate rule. If the people like it, it should be encouraged. Just think about the problems this could create in a functional society

Pichaikaran 1 was an interesting watch because it contained a unique setup, an interesting concept never seen before that the audience could relate with. The difficulty that a millionaire would have in living the life of a beggar was well captured and superbly executed so despite its flaws, it was thoroughly entertaining fare. Pichaikaran 2 wildly meanders between reason and fantasy, is unfocused and barely believable. It tries to be too many things all at once and ends up being neither.
