The Bef

After viewing a wonderful selection of short films at Grimmfest,I got set for the final one in the batch,by going to meet Bef.

Keeping at the same height as 11 year old Sammy (played with a impressive mature grip on the complexities of the character by Jacob Shapiro) writer/director Eric Burleson serves a juicy slice of Southern Gothic, ignited from a rich golden glow poking out of low-hanging shadows around a decaying house.

Introducing the viewers to Sammy and his huge scars glistening,the screenplay by Burleson tensely unfolds the abduction of Sammy,which Burleson criss-crosses with a gradual sinking from out of the shadows, of the swamp dwelling kidnapper.

It is his film. Because, after the end of The Bef, the only remarkable thing remains his performance., real special.

The story itself... .

Yes, the twist is nice but not so surprising. The first suppositions - from the brother to the cops looking for young thief are OK but not so disturbed by the last part.

Well crafted atmosphere , familiar pieces of old fashion Gothic.

And, especially, the work of young Jacob Shapiro saving a not very impressive short horror.
