Night Court

Thank God for John Laroquette. If not for him I wouldn't have bothered watching this reboot at all. By the way, who asked for this reboot? NOBODY.

One thing that the original NC was great at (and there were many things, at least back in the 80's) is that it didn't feel forced. There were goofballs coming in left and right, Harry played off of John well, everyone had their own thing and everything just worked. Nothing felt forced. This new NC feels just like every other comedy show made after the 90's (with a few exceptions)...canned. I don't think that John can carry this show andI don't see it lasting more than maybe two seasons though I'd be shocked if they make it to two seasons.

Not sure they can re-create the magic. The characters aren't very likeable with the exception of course of John plus the bailiff. But even the bailiff's schtick is going to get old if they don't get these scripts and characters dialed in. It is nearly impossible to reboot a show and have it be as good as the original and so my hope is that they cut this nonsense out. If the studios decide to reboot The Jeffersons, Three's Company, MASH, Different Strokes, Alf, Golden Girls or anything else on my list, I'm jumping off the planet (lol).

I wanted to like this show since I loved the original. I was surprised that the dialog was difficult to follow. Did the writers or director think it would be funnier if most characters talked too fast? No, I do not have a hearing problem.

Half of the characters have shallow personalities but half are well developed. I'll keep watching, hoping it improves.

John Larroquette played the kinky sleazeball perfectly in the original. Currently he just reflects the antics of the other characters. He's almost a straight man!

Harry Anderson portrayed a bizarre but fair judge, strange interests with a heart of gold. Melissa Rauch plays a judge with.awkward half-hidden sexual desires. Not nearly as interesting and a bit of a cliche.

Richard Moll, Markie Post, Marsha Warfield, Charles Robinson, and others played characters so deep they were profound at times, and play the parts well. I hope the new series can develop like that.

I wanted so badly to like the show, and I have stuck through it into the second season simply because John Larroquette has. It has departed so far from what the original was supposed to be. The jokes are terrible. The majority of the characters are unlikable. The cuteness that Melissa Rauch had on big bang is just annoying now. I will probably finish out this season for John, but unless there are major improvements in the remaining episodes, I'm giving up on it, and I think everyone else should too. It's clear now that this show never should have happened. The charisma and talent of the original cast is what it made so special. None of that is present here.

In a word, this show sucks, and that's a shame...The original Night Court was hilarious. John Laroquette is the only actor with any real comedic timing and delivery. He even makes his lines that are at times terribly written bring a chuckle. The lady playing Olivia almost ruins the show. The bailiff is played by a comedienne, and I understand why I've never heard of her.

This show is so poorly written...The writing team must not understand comedy, because they sure can't write a good joke.

Melissa doesn't annoy me as much as she seems to bother many other reviewers...she's okay, it's just the material she is given lacks comedic substance.

My wife loves the show...I have to watch this show and Call Me Kat weekly. Please have pity on me.

This show has the potential, and the cast, that could work into successful series. BUT the very fake canned laughter absolutely ruins the show and makes it hard to watch. The producers should have faith in the cast to make it a show to watch. Too bad. Also, I'm not sure having the judge be the daughter of the previous judge is helpful in any way.

John Larroquette alone would make it worth watching and I'm wishing that it could become a more wry and sophisticated comedy although it's pretty hard to recover from such a faulty start.
