Injury Slight... Please Advise

Not much else to say than that. The interviews are the most interesting parts. The recreations are not done very well tho. The use of stock footage doesn't do much for it either.

The DVD cover compares it to Indiana Jones which was a very poor decision cuz it raised my expectations too high.

Also, one of the bonus features kinda popped up as sort of a red flag to me. It is an interview with the filmmakers on the 700 Club. Maybe that was the only forum where the filmmakers were offered to express their insights on the film. It only made me question the motivations of the people behind the scenes a bit tho.

I may watch it again but I'll probably just sell it.

I originally saw this documentary at a film festival and couldn't wait to buy the DVD. I was amazed at how the festival audience responded to the movie and to the filmmaker, during the Q&A. The Behind the Scenes segment on the DVD explain some of the reason for this response.

You really get into the people portrayed in the documentary and learn the perspective of those who actually lived this story. It is entertaining to watch so young people are not bored with a "history lesson". The re-creation scenes make you feel as if you are there. The acting is wonderful, especially for a documentary. It seems more like a feature film.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in World War II or American History in general. It would be a wonderful tool for teachers of World War II history. My friend's 15 year-old son also enjoyed it and was amazed that "real people do have Indiana Jones-type adventures."

Josh Baxter and Arion Pictures have perfectly captured the amazing, horrific and sometimes funny story of Charles Sullivan as he crash landed his stricken fighter plane only to have to evade hostile natives while dealing with the incredibly harsh landscape of New Guinea. I am an avid history buff and I found it very refreshing that they went to such trouble to make it accurate rather than just taking the easy way out. The film is largely based around Sullivan personally recounting his adventure along with reenactments to help visually tell the story. The lengths that Josh and his crew went to to accurately capture the story are remarkable and a testament to the spirit of independent filmmakers. I HIGHLY recommend this film for not only history buffs but also filmmakers who are looking for some inspiration and an example of what it possible with a true 'no quit' attitude.

All right, perhaps it does not deserve a 10, but this man is my first cousin once removed. I never knew he was an ace pilot. He appears on Find A Grave where this film is mentioned. This is how I learned the film existed.

Very good presentation of history. He put the O back in O'Sullivan. God bless him!

As to the presentation itself, it is well balanced and makes for a good film to show a group, particularly in remembering World War 2 or celebrating St. Patrick's day! You will see how researchers recovered a magnificent piece of history. I wish this film were free online so my relatives could share. Perhaps one day it will be.

I found this DVD recently in the "Buy One - Get One Free" bin at the local video store. There were only 2 copies in the store. The cover storyline looked interesting and since it was about an aviator's survival story, I decided to buy it. It's not THAT bad. It's definitely a low budget documentary and real life is not like a Hollywood action movie. I'd recommend this movie for anybody who can remember WW2 or who appreciates the fact the American entry into the conflict was the deciding factor in its outcome. So that would be anybody over 60+ years of age. The documentary could have been slightly improved if the actor's clothing would have been allowed to dirty and deteriorate throughout his ordeal. He just seemed to clean after 4 weeks in the jungle. The computer reenactments of the flying sequences were somewhat lame. To summarize, if you're an older male, former WW2 aviator veteran, you'll find this story interesting. Chris in Winnipeg Canada.
