(2021) To Kill the Beast
(In Spanish and Portuguese with English subtitles)
SUPERNATURAL/ DRAMA/ MYSTERY
Written and directed by Agustina San Martín that has Emilia (Tamara Rocca) arriving to her aunt Inés (Ana Brun) hostel place, located at the Argentina-Brazil border. Walking alongside with her at the trail is an unknown motorcyclist keeping her company and aiding her directions. At first her aunt did not want her, but she eventually let her have one of the rooms upstairs, claiming their is no cellphone signal and that the TV may have one channel. By the time she goes to the village, she still appear to have problems with cell phone service, and asks some ladies to use the phone. They recognize her because they were ladies who hung around or work at her mother's hostel. And she leaves a message on the answering machine of a guy Mateo Otero, we find out later is the name of her brother. It is not the last time she leaves a message on Mateo Otero's phone to as soon as she sees an outside phone, she would then leave many more messages on his phone with no call back or any sign he is even alive. Because their appear to be no police, Emilia cannot even report her brother missing as well. Another visitor shows up at the hostel welcomed by her aunt, her name is Julieth (Julieth Micolta) and the aunt has Emilia showed her the bedroom right next to hers. It is not long before they become fast friends as they go dancing together at a night club before they become intimate. Throughout the movie Emilia is also told about a strange beast/ creature who can take multiple forms, some of those animals is wolf and a bull or a cow- take your pick. Emilia eventually stumble onto what may be her brother's pet dog, and asks takes the opportunity to have someone to drive her to her brother's residence to find him not even there. Other people appear to live in Emilia brother's residence other than him himself.
It says here Emilia visited so that she could look for her brother, but the thing is there were no indications about that if she was leaving messages. If she was actually was looking for her brother, that his place of residence would have been the first place she would go to and not her aunt's place. The movie was quite boring though trying to keep a straight face without falling asleep.

I think it only happened one time for me, to see a movie that had no point, no direction, it just kept going and going about the smallest possible details and then ended. I remember only the fact that I was furious about it, even tho I love cinema, especially horror, and I take my time with it and try to understanding it and appreciate it in any of its forms...this was unberarable yet again.
Perhaps with some experience under my belt, I didn't get angry this time, but I quickly realize that To Kill The Beast was indeed and sadly...pointless.
A movie that is one hour and 16 minutes, a length reached only because of over stretching simple scenes like, two characters laughing for 2 minutes, dancing for 2 minutes and so on.
No reason to recommend it, not even to pass the time, this is as dull as watching paint dry, for 76 minutes.
Cheers!
