Cildo Meireles

A very unusual short documentary that presents the work of painter/artist Cildo Meireles and the way he sees the world, its relations and how such works challenge audiences in questioning the world around them, the social/political/economical relations during the Brazilian military dictatorship. Director Wilson Coutinho uses of Cildo's works, joining with music and a movie starring John Wayne where he's dubbed by another actor who describes Cildo's art form, explaining the special characteristics of his art.

With some bouts of insanity and some logic, the film presents some valid and interesting points of view with some humor and some mystery. I'm not all that versed in the artist's works so it was a highly unusual way to be acquainted with his paintings, sculptures, geometric forms and other random forms of art which reflect what's important to him. The use of music going from two magical pieces by Satie and concluding with Roberto Carlos was special. For curious viewers in seeing small projects or admirers of Cildo Meireles projects, it's a fun way to go inside his head. 6/10.
