The WRITING!!

Wow I've loved this show so far for the performances and great jokes but this episode really knocked it put of the park in terms of storytelling and relationship building. The situation between Deborah and DJ is so complex and the way it unfolds from Ava's perspective is just absolutely amazing. Makes for a really enjoyable episodes with quite a few shocking and touching moments. Great show so far! Can't wait for more!

D'Hackery

It's hard to quantify how funny the first two episodes of Hacks were. Lots and lots of laugh-out-loud moments and a main character that you just gotta love.

Jean Smart plays an aging, acerbic, but extremely funny comedian who is sort of a cross between Joan Rivers and Roseannne Barr.

Hanna Einbinder plays a pinched-faced "comedy" writer who has the comedic sensibilities of a wooden plank to the face. Her character, Ava Daniels, is an arrogant, talentless self-pitying failure.

The writers appears to have burned all their best material in Episodes 1 and 2. Because already the show has become an unfunny, cringey, twisted mom/daughter thing.

They have one more show to pull out of the ditch or I"m bailing.

Anecdotes
Jean Smart's character, Deborah Vance, learns that her image appears on a foot fetish website known as wikiFeet. In real life, wikiFeet devotes a page to Jean Smart.

Gaffes
Near the 24:45 mark, there is a night scene with Ava strolling down a city sidewalk. As she stops to check out TMZ on her phone, a lone woman who was walking behind her passes by. Moments later, as Ava finishes looking at TMZ, the same woman again passes by, traveling in the same direction.
