Sasmos

This is a very interesting story based on a book and true events.

I love the variety and complexity of the characters, with Mathios being the most complex of all.

The acting is very convincing with some authentic Cretan accents.

I have enjoyed Nikos Xilouri's song Hameni Agapi that plays in the beginning of each episode.

This is a series with some wholesome performances by most of the cast and a decent script with good dialogues.

If there was any decent directing, I guess performances could be exceptional.

The cinematography in some parts is solid, but in most cases rushed and even bad.

The style department has done a very good job, both for the clothing and set decoration.

The sound is average and there are a few scenes where it's awful! The cicadas are no excuse for such a mess.

Another area where this series has big issues is sound mixing. No time was invested there, apparently.

But the biggest problem by far is the editing. There, was the real rush. And why this series at its current state is not worth more than 6 stars. The backs and forths for dream and memory sequences are really tiring. This is apparently a job of an amateur who was given too little time to work. Because, no professional would deliver such a mess. Coloring may as well be non-existent.

As the series grows, it seems that bad editing was the plan all along. Milking every sentence of the script for an extra minute, editors have ended up reusing some clips more than 10 times. My original rating was at 6, but after being repeatedly disappointed by long and useless scenes, I am dropping this to a 4.

TLDR: This used to be quality work and production, with very big issues at the post-production stage. If they decide to give it another try on post-production, cutting out huge chunks, there was material to boost this series to an 8+. But the quality dropped and keeps dropping.

If one comes from Greece, they could give it a try.

I would not recommend this series.

First of all this was a very typical Cretan - Greek serial. The music was very good. After the summer holidays in 2023 the serial came back with different back ground music, the head of police with a weird to almost strange hairstyle, acting is different and became more like the usual serials of which we are tired. They have lost their success. No changes should be made in something , a formula that was already successful yet they did. The scenes made look cheaper. Also it seems that the husband of Despina Vandi needed another job and they added him to the serial as the next one to start a Vendeta... very sad to see such success being destroyed. I have spoken to many of my Greek friends and everyone agrees... They are now on the. S3 - 5 and they are tired of looking at the serial, i believe soon the numbers will show the decision makers that they have done wrong to this succes, what a shame... Wishing you luck.

No good series! Not at all! Terrible show with boring plot. Greek soap opera without good actors with a few exceptions. There are better Greek series to watch!!!

If it's worth anything, it's the soundtrack of the series

The plot of the series evolves between the feud between Stamatakis and Vroulakis, but also the hatred that it carries and the love of the two young people that will act as a catalyst for the reconciliation, the kiss of the two families.

Sasmos is a Greek daily drama television series, broadcast by Alpha from September 6, 2021.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Spyros Petroulakis, released by "Minoas" publications in 2019.

It's only 4 episodes in and I'm already obsessed. The performance of every singe actor and actress is unbelievable, script and direction on point, visuals are pretty good and so is the music. Everything is very promising and the story is so interesting, everytime after a new episode I wish I could binge the show.
