Avis à la une
In leiu of a cancelled stadium performance in the wake of the COVID outbreak, Perfume would later release this online "live concert" and career retrospective of sorts - but with the high audio production values combined with green screened choreography over flashy computer graphics, the result is actually closer to a set of glorified music videos.
I'm not the world's biggest fan of Perfume exactly, but I do personally tend do adore the production/composition works of Yasutaka Nakata, so I was happily able to enjoy the combination of music and dazzling visuals. His style of bubbly, squeaky-clean electropop might not be for everyone, but if that sort of music is your jam you also might enjoy what's on offer here even if you aren't a fan of the group.
Otherwise, yeah, there probably isn't much to take away from this, when the "live performance" aspect itself isn't the most riveting. Check this out if you're a fan of Perfume, the music genres they generally operate within, or perhaps you enjoy the spectacle of spatial 3D art or digital installations. If none of that sounds appealing then this is a pretty hard to recommend.

Stadium dance moves on a small screen. That's like watching mimes. Synth pop on a loop. No musicians were hurt during this performance. A trio of girls singing where one would do; no harmonies at all. Singing is a loose term as it was all auto-synth voice correct.... So a computer did it all. The graphics were mediocre but was a saving grace. In short, nothing outstanding talent wise. The only thing that stood out was the dancing in high heels. Couldn't have been fun.
An extended Japanese musical, electronic video that ups the dazzling visual performances with dance, song, and exciting light displays. The dance choreography is excellent and originally exciting. The use of special effect, laser, and computer-generated animation is also quite overwhelming. What seems to be missing is a coherent theme with more deeply emotional elements for each "room" and a less than coherent lyrical understanding of the actual words being sung. Nevertheless, this energetic and powerful display was aways compelling and captivating and any weaknesses only ushers in the potential for even more future greatness and possibilities on the horizon. Likely more to come from this awesome group.
Why?
Average dancers doing mediocre moves, in front of computer graphics, lit flat and boringly for maximum green screen registering. Their vocals (mimed?, might as well be,... if anything was actually live) buried under loud synths. Why bother? What's the entertainment value here?
This isn't representative of the state of the art, or the state of talent in Japanese music making. This is phoned in filler.
No innovation on display here.
