Greetings again from the darkness. Most of us will never know the agony and desperation felt by Jews in 1942 Warsaw, the setting of the latest from writer-director Rodrigo Cortes (the underappreciated thriller, BURIED, 2010). Co-written with David Safier, the film benefits from an extraordinary performance by Clara Rugaard as Stefcia, the lead actress in a live performance of Jerzy Jurandot's "Love Looks for an Apartment" taking place in a rundown theater within the slums of Warsaw.

The genius of the film is the symmetry between the play and the real-world developments occurring for Stefcia. Fellow actors in the troupe include her current boyfriend Edmund (Ferdio Walsh-Peelo) and her ex-boyfriend Patrik (Mark Ryder), whose latest proposition has caused quite the conundrum for all three - as well as Edmund's little sister Sara (Dalit Streett Tejeda), who ends up on stage for the climax. Although the play is a musical romantic comedy being performed to bring a glimmer of joy to local residents, there is even more drama occurring backstage, and all of this takes place at a frenetic pace that plays out in mostly real time.

Fear is ever-present in the form of a rifle-wielding Nazi soldier (Magnus Krepper) who interrupts the show and plops down on the front row. He's the type of arrogant soldier who finds joy in flaunting his power and watching others cower in his presence. Of course, the audience is oblivious to the fact that the emotions played out on stage - love, fear, confusion, and passion - are also playing out in the real lives of those same actors. Life here is bleak, yet the play brings a form of hope that goodness and joy still exist.

Fueled by adrenaline, putting nerves on edge, the film is enhanced by Victor Reyes' score and the tremendous camera work by cinematographer Rafa Garcia. The camera is almost always in motion, mirroring the key players and the drama and decisions unfolding. Additionally worth noting is a frantic scene over the opening credits that revs us up so we can keep pace with the coming story. This is excellent filmmaking by Rodrigo Cortes, and the message emphasizing the human spirit to always carry on is on full display. On a personal note, one of my favorite takeaways here is the dedication the actors show in delivering a show that offers a window of joy to those in dire need of it.

The film will be released June 23 in limited theaters and available on Digital + VOD June 30th.

The film is based on real events. Good storytelling needs to be emphasized, Rodrigo Cortez was able to put it all together and make a good film. The acting is good, the scenery, the costumes and the atmosphere of the film is gorgeous. It is worth noting another excellent performance of Klara in the role of the main actress, the plot and atmosphere of the film does not allow leaving the cinema uninvolved and untouched. Rodrigo Cortez, my compliments.

The film is good, despite the fact that I am not a fan of such films, but I really liked it. The plot fascinates, it is immediately clear that the writers have tried. I bet 10/10. Clara you are super, you played great.

Intense drama with musical elements , this is a thought-provoking film about Warsaw Ghetto including cruel deeds and exciting images . This is an emotionally tale and very decent drama about a team of actors perform in the heart of the Warsaw Ghetto in a life or death context and six months before the deportations to the extermination camps . Depicting the terrifying existence in the horrible ghetto including suffering , theatrical happenings , starvation and other grisly events until a surprising ending .

It is an impressive drama, though overtalking , set on a run-down stage with musical numbers , dances s, ongs and brief hilarious touches while occurs the theatrical staging . The film is elegant , well-paced and brilliantly made but it's marred by being really clautrophobic and stagy . The first point that impresses the viewer is certainly the blending of drama , comedy , romance , as well as terror , cruelty and sadism from the despicable , sadistic Nazis . As Magnus Krepper has the role of the nasty Sergeant Szkop and deserved a nomination to the Academy Award. The screenplay does not shows the deep reality of the lives of the dwellers of this ghetto , if she depicts the deep tension , threats and their fight to survive in times of war , including the beginning of their resistance. However, it does not show the final destruction of the ghetto after a failed uprising on 01 September 1943 organized by the first Jewish partisan unit in Nazi-occupied Europe the "Fareinigte Partizaner Organizacje" , the United Partisan Organization . The beauty of Clara Rugaard and the dramatic and conflictive position of stage players are brilliantly performed , they 're stunning and amazing. This is a portentous drama about Jews suffering Poland holocaust . It bears a certain resemblance to ¨Ghetto¨ (2005) by Audrius Juzenas that recounts the last days of the Vilna Ghetto Theatre company , while ¨Love Gets a Room¨ (2021) is based on excerpts , originally written in Polish, translated into English , of Jerzy Jurandot's play Milosc szuka mieszkania, which premiered at the Femina Theatre in the Warsaw ghetto (1941) . Very good performances from main and support cast cast with special mention for starring Clara Rugaard , accompanied by nice actors as Mark Ryder , Ferdia Walsh-Peelo , Valentina Bellè , Jack Roth , Freya Parks , Anastasia Hille. F

The music score by composer Victor Reyes gives a touch of class and mirth . Evocative, though dark cinematography by Rafael García with excessive ,camera shots , movements , but providing enjoyable mise en scene. The motion picture was well directed by Rodrigo Cortés delivering brilliant tracking shots, , though it relies heavily on the stage acting , song and musical numbers .Filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés correctly directs a spellbinding portrait about the holocaust based on true facts. This Spanish filmmaker has directed notorious international successes as ¨Red Lights¨, ¨Dawn in dark hill¨ , ¨Blackwood¨and his biggest hit : ¨Buried¨ and another success was ¨The Contestant¨ or El Concursante that won Maestre Mateo Award to support cast , best director and editing and Malaga Film Festival, best director , best cinematography , and Rodrigo Cortés has got several Goyas and nominations. Love Gets a Room (2021) rating : 6.5/10 . Acceptable and passable .

It's 1942 in the Warsaw Ghetto. This is a behind the scene of a play which a group of actors are struggling to perform. Lead actress Stefcia (Clara Rugaard) is struggling to survive like everyone else. Two guys are fighting over her with an escape plan swirling over them. Out of the blue, a Nazi commander walks in and sits in the audience.

My initial take is that this is an askew angle at a familiar picture. The Warsaw Ghetto is a familiar setting and lots of this has been done before. I don't think that I've seen a story about a play being performed in that place. Of course, there is going to be something about the art of acting saving the soul of humanity. That is the other familiar part of the movie. Nevertheless, I am still taken by that sentimental tripe. It is something we hope is true and this movie gets me in the end.
