NOVA Universe Revealed

First off, love our local library which can offer "Free Puppies" and a "Universe Revealed" all in a single visit.

Getting older, and lacking both faith and a green thumb (two ways two have an appreciation for life after *my* life), I wind up turning to the cosmos (or Cosmos for Sagan/DeGrasse Tyson). This series not only helps with that perspective, it offers two clear hopes for humanity.

#1 - the collection of talking heads is a nice cross-section that makes it clear, the universe is for everybody. The male/female and beyond are represented, and people across the melanin spectrum are all involved in understanding signals from the electromagnetic spectrum.

#2 - and there's hope not just for smart scientists, but talented artists as well. The cold blue energy of the universe before stars, the black-hole collisions, impossible images of probes on almost-impossible expeditions to the sun (Parker) or to the time before the big bang (James Webb Space Telescope).

The latter led me to some Pagan worship. Let me be clear, I'm talking about Alyssa Pagan and senior data imaging developer Joseph DePasquale at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STSI) in Baltimore... worth a click/search imho.

As we boldly take our baby steps and eventually meet new life and new civilizations, those beings will hopefully see our artists, scientists and dog rescuers and judge us to be more than the galactic equivalent of planetary termites.

What I will say, for starters, is that the narrator's voice is not a good fit for this series. It's a very important aspect of any documentary; just doesn't work. The commentary from the experts seems very superficial and annoying. Cramming all those voices in becomes a distraction. The music and sound effects are circa 1990s, higher production value should have been applied here.

Bottom line: I got bored watching this series, so much so that I skipped over a few of the chapters then ultimately just shut it off.

The overall subject matter is very interesting. The graphics and special effects were descent.

Ultimately, the series is not what I expected. It's missing that original classic NOVA production style.

Her voice just ruins this documentary. Instead of having a soothing tone her voice is 'perky' and sounds like she's talking to you over brunch. The inflection at the end of every sentence has a 'sss' or an 'OoOh'. I literally heard nothing anyone else said. Used to documentaries had a spellbinding air to them with narrators who lulled you further into the story. The music was equally as awful. It honestly sounded like the went to Spotify and played a randomized movie trailer playlist. It overcame the scenes instead of adding to them. Will be returning my copy. I guess I'll just stick to the older outdated ones of the news one continue to be like this. I'll choose Morgan Freeman talking over outdated science any day.
