Ace the Zombie: The Motion Picture (2012)

It has been many years since the first zombie oubreaks and thanks to the "miracle" drug Zom-CalmÂ®, zombies now occupy almost twenty percent of the national workforce. Alan Christopher Edwards (Ace) sympathizes with the zombies; they're treated like second class citizens, and so is he. He gets no love or respect from his girlfriend Brenda, his supposed best friend Jessie and Derrick his co-worker just want to use him for a good thing. The only bright spots in his life are his friend Chad the zombie and the girl next door (zombie research scientist) Colleen Wells. Ace's life changes forever on one fateful afternoon when he is attacked and bitten by a zombie, then captured by the Zombie Control Force and brought to the Containment Facility. Here he learns of a plot by Keeper Ellis to destroy all zombies. Ellis has secretly developed a Zom-Roid formula that makes zombies faster, stronger and more violent. He and his henchman Stanley have been strategically releasing these Zom-Roid Zombies in staged attacks to raise the level of public fear so he can justify his planned annihilation of the undead. And he's only one more attack away from succeeding. Ace must somehow stop the evil Keeper Ellis in a desperate fight to save his life and the lives of his friends!

Perfect COMBO

ACE had *just* the right combination of suspense and humor-- the funny parts really disarmed me, so when the scarier scene showed up, I was even MORE scared than usual! ACE will claim it's spot at the TOP of the Zom-Com heap. GREAT FILM! The acting is Top-Shelf. There are quite a few new faces and thoroughly enjoyed the nuanced tension between the characters. The sound track too is phenomenal. The premise of the "Undead" being integrated BACK into society is *Genius*. It seems to set up some really creative artistic opportunities that seem to have been taken full advantage of! Run Don't walk to see this film! (Unless, of course you can do that cool Zombie-drag-walk....then do that!)

Anecdotes
In 1992 Robert Rodriguez made el Mariachi, his first film, for the unheard of low budget of only $7,000.00. In 2010, 18 years later, Ace the Zombie, producer/ director Giles Shepherd's first film, was made for the princely sum of only $6,000. Rodriguez shot on 16mm so most of his budget went to film and processing. Ace was shot on HD so most of the budget appears on screen in the form of costumes, props, makeup and one location, Bill Ireland Youth Detention Center, which cost $650.00 to use for one 3 day weekend.

Gaffes
In the old hallway at the Zombie Control Facility, when Keeper Ellis turns his head toward the camera, both camera and cameraman are reflected in Ellis' sunglasses.
