Avis à la une
It makes me want a burger real bad
Well... this is a weird movie. Let's just say that right away. American Carnage feels like it has a lot of mixed messages, and that's honestly its biggest problem. If the filmmakers had focused on just one idea, it could've been a stronger, more coherent movie. But as it is, you never really know what it wants to be a critique of capitalism? Racism? Consumerism? All of the above? It's a messy mix that doesn't fully translate.
The writing is also confusing. Some parts just don't make sense, even though the general plot doesn't make much sense either. There are a few scenes where you can't help but go, "Wait, what?" big plot holes and all. So yeah, it's a strange experience.
Now, is it weird that after watching it, I kind of wanted a burger? Probably.
On the bright side, Alan Maldonado completely steals the show. He's hilarious, charismatic, and honestly, a comedic genius. He's so handsome and his timing is perfect. He's not even the main character, but he's the reason the movie is worth watching at all.
It's also a bit sad, because some of the things happening in the movie like the deportations and ICE raids reflect real situations in the United States. That part hit hard. It's like life imitating art in a very unsettling way. Let's just hope it doesn't go as far as the movie does.
That said, American Carnage isn't really scary, even though it's marketed as horror. It's not exactly cringe either just confusing. It could've leaned more into comedy, because that's where it shines thanks to Maldonado's performance (and his "Big Mac" moment, which I won't spoil).
But overall, it's a weird one. Not well done no pun intended. It tries to juggle too many social commentaries racism, consumerism, capitalism and ends up a little lost. I also noticed some colorism issues: almost all the lighter-skinned or white characters are villains. Maybe that was intentional, but it still made me go "hmm."
So yeah, for me, American Carnage was just... weird. Not terrible, not good just strange.

Trash
The film can be described in one word - trash. I don't know who wrote this script and who agreed to shoot it.
This is the moral here - all white pagans, egoists, cannibals. While emigrants are cool heroes.
I have nothing against other peoples, but this is clearly overkill. And stupid jokes just finish the project.

Disqppointing clichéd Cheesefest. No comedy. No scare.
Really disappointed in this film.
Started off with potential and then they get to te Care Home and it just gets stupid and lazy.
Some really irritating cliche characters.
It tried its best to have a message but because it was Troma level bad it was lost amongst the dross.
It had moments of GET OUT in there but without any of the suspense or good writing, acting or direction.
Extra points added purely for attractive female leads.
And the one scene where a patient twists and consorts which was kinda cool.....but want explained at all and just added as an after thought.
The villains were almost scooby doo level cringe.
Who was the target audience here?
It seemed to fail in every area. The CGI was very cheap and fake looking.
Once they got to the Care facility it was fail after plot hole after fail. Like they just didn't know where to go with it.
It had no fun element and no comedy.
The 'Dog' character was so overracted it became irritating.
A huge blot on Ortega's resume.
Avoid.

Delivers What's Expected and Nothing More
I'm seeing a lot of reviews complaining about this film being unrealistic, stupid, cheesy, etc. Well....duh!
The plot basically tells you up front that this is an unrealistic, completely fantastical, outrageous story without any promises of intellectual social commentary or political agenda.
So if you're watching this expecting ultra realism, and deep character driven exposition you've set yourself up for disappointment.
There is some genuine comic relief with a couple of the characters and Jenna Ortega, as always, is a bright spot of the film with her typical snotty and rebellious attitude
If you actually take the time to WATCH the film and understand everything it turns out there is actually some relevant social commentary regarding the treatment of the elderly, "weak", or undesirables of society and how large corporations and the government see the general public as simply a means to an end. That end being financial gain.
The fact is, this film delivers what is promised and nothing more. It is a comical and unrealistic fantasy made simply to entertain. There MAY be a message buried in the mix but that can be avoided and ignored easily and you can enjoy the film for the stupid and humorous ride it is meant to be.

A different take on horror/comedy.
I think American Carnage deserves a higher rating than it actually gets on here. The story was entertaining to watch. It surprised me positively. Sure, republican Trump lovers won't love it, but do we really care? Personally I wouldn't have played the comedy card with this one. I think just horror and mystery would have made it much better. As for the acting there are for sure actors that could do better but overall it was watchable. The horror scenes were kinda creepy, it could have used more of those. The cinematography wasn't bad, and would probably have been better with a higher budget. American Carnage will please fans of surprising horror stories.
