Bad Senator

Classic messing around and messing things up style dramedy about a has-been senator whose life consists of golf, golf and more golf despite his family relationship all going down the toilet around him.

His sidekick/ antagonist veteran neighbor is classically depicted in an almost Three Stooges manner as they try to scheme things that seem to habitually fail until an ethereal Iris shows up and like the film Grumpy Old Men, she gets between them to iron out their mutual deficiencies and eventually mold them into better people.

If you never lived in Florida you'd think everyone drove Gold carts (maybe they do) and these add to the quirky nature of the film. The film is shot well with great sunlit visuals and the positive redemption message is inspiring and valuable today.

Bad Senator is a cerebral type of comedy about aging out of purpose and trying to find where your legacy will or wont end up. If your into political humor and are familiar with the landscape and systems you'll get a lot of the inside jokes and easter eggs scattered through out the film. Written and directed by Chad W. Richardson, "Bad Senator" is about a redemption story filled with emotional beats and character moments as well as a few unexpected events witch move the story along. The filming is colorful bright and well executed and the mix of comedy and drama is nicely done to find that balance.

You need to check this one out-it's way more than just another comedy. What starts off as a quirky ride through a sun-soaked retirement community full of nosy neighbors and hilarious passive-aggression slowly unfolds into something way richer and more heartfelt. At first, it's all chaotic charm-everyone in each other's business, driving each other up the wall-but as the story moves along, the absurdity gives way to genuine connection, and by the end, you're surprised how much you actually care.

Bob Gallagher plays Richard with the kind of dry, deadpan delivery that just works-he's the calm eye of the storm, navigating the mayhem like a guy who's seen too much and still manages to be amused by it all. And Rob Moore brings serious energy as Jocko, the kind of wild card sidekick who keeps things unpredictable but always fun. Then there's Iris, the new neighbor who rolls in with her hippie energy and peaceful aura-and somehow rewires the whole dynamic. She's not just comic relief, she's a catalyst.

The characters grow on you, the threads come together, and before you know it, you're emotionally invested. It lands with a surprisingly touching finale that feels totally earned.

Also, props to the music. The soundtrack adds so much-it keeps the tone light when it needs to be, but also knows when to pull back and let the emotions land.

Bottom line: it's smart, it's funny, it's got heart-and it doesn't try too hard to impress you. It just tells a good story with great characters. Definitely worth your time.
