Doceamargo

I watched this out of a whim as I was trying to find a similar titled film that was actually released in 1968 and this popped in and I got curious. Interesting premise and concept but with a lacking execution that did not impressed me except for two or three moments.

In "Doceamargo" ("BitterSweet") a young couple (Débora Falabella and Rafael Primot) survived a car crash of which they did not know how it happened and they're stuck inside the vehicle waiting for help. As the long night progresses, they keep on discussing possible reasons on why they are there - this is 1968 during the military regime and for the little we can get attest they are involved with the resistance against the regime so they might have been persecuted by opposite forces - and they also share moments of love and care despite their injuries, which makes it all too painful for them.

An amazing moment is when they are declaring love to each other, then they move to demand kisses from one another but they can't move to do it so they keep on imaging it, lots of kisses, escalating to wishes for a sexual relationship but it's all done through dialogues, whispers and moanings. It was strangely funny but cute, almost as if they're repairing their broken relationship in the middle of an important crisis where they could lose their lives. Other than the sequence the movie isn't all that great. It's watchable, you really feel stuck inside that smashed car with those characters but you don't learn much about them neither feel deeply connected with them. Fine thing to watch. 6/10.
