Avis à la une
Vincent René-Lortie's Academy Award-nominated "Invincible" tells the story of a youth incarcerated in a detention facility. Without a doubt, this boy has all sorts of problems, but he makes an effort to deal with his problems.
I guess that the main thing to take from this gritty short is that psychological distress damages people in ways that most of us can't imagine. We in the United States are so used to thinking of Canada as the land of no strife that a production like this will be like a brick to the face.
I wouldn't go so far as to call this short a masterpiece, but it still goes to show what you can accomplish with a good story and good acting. Available on Vimeo.

A great, emotional story and fantastic performances. Director Vincent René-Lortie clearly is a name to watch as is the young star Léokim Beaumier-Lépine who gives a note-perfect natural performance as Marc-Antoine as his life unravels.
The story - and it's in the bio so it can't be a spoiler - sees us follow Marc-Antione in the last 48 hours of his life as he is taken back to the juvenile detention facility where he is being held after a blissful weekend of home leave.
I hear this is being put forward for the 'live-action short' Oscar. That's perfectly well-deserved and it will take something great to beat it.
It's a truly exceptional short film and a credit to everyone involved in making it. Go and find where it's showing and give it 30 minutes of your life.

A great film . Admirable photography and the splendid performance of young Leokim. Beaumier Lepine. And the fair way to define not the most comfortable questions, from essence of freedom, limits of kindness of a teacher, literary talent and the isolation, the callphone to home after escape and the confirmation of warning, the radical decision as only form to assume the freedom.
Not easy but beautiful crafted, exploring , in gentle - precise manner, fundamental truths not reduced to the case of young Marc but to each of us.
A simple story inspired crafted. In essence that is just all . And the gratitude for a great work, for director.

"Invincible" is a gripping and poignant exploration of the human spirit's desperate yearning for freedom, set against the stark backdrop of a rehabilitation center for troubled children. Directed by visionary filmmaker Vincent René-Lortie, this emotionally charged film takes audiences on a harrowing journey through the depths of despair and the elusive pursuit of liberty.
The protagonist, Marc, brilliantly portrayed by Leokim Beaumier Lépine, is a young soul trapped within the confines of a rehabilitation center, a place meant to heal but, in his case, becomes a prison of the mind. The film adeptly navigates the complexities of Marc's troubled past. The supporting cast, including the counselor and fellow patients, deliver standout performances, adding layers to the narrative and emphasizing the impact of institutionalization on vulnerable individuals. The relationships formed within the center reveal the subtle nuances of human connection, but ultimately underscore the profound isolation Marc feels.
Great job, hope that gets nominated.

I really liked this short film, everything aspect was really well done except the frustration of not knowing why Marc was the way he was (understandably, as it's based on a true story and no one will know what Marc was thinking). Despite having mental health issues myself, I could not empathize with his self sabotaging behavior and that took me out of the film a bit.
It's well worth the watch still - the cinematography was gorgeous, the acting from all (but especially the young man playing Marc) was great and the directing was on point. It's only 30 minutes so there really isn't much of an excuse not to watch it lol.
