(Dis)connected presents an intriguing sci-fi short story that feels like it could one day become reality. In this world, humanity is connected to an AI network through implants in their necks, allowing people to control and filter their memories as they choose. However, when a network glitch causes Mina's implant to malfunction, she is overwhelmed by vivid, uncontrolled memories and haunting visions of a child she lost years ago. The only way to stop it is to remove the implant-but even that comes at a cost.
Despite its brief runtime of just six minutes, (Dis)connected gives viewers plenty to think about. Today, companies like Elon Musk's Neuralink are already working on brain implants for enhanced connectivity. While we're still a long way from the events shown in the film, it effectively highlights the potential risks of merging human minds with technology and relying on AI in such personal ways.
The acting didn't particularly stand out to me but was decent overall. The special effects were high quality, and the design of the implants-with their neck connection ports and cables-clearly drew inspiration from The Matrix. I also appreciated how much the film managed to deliver in such a short span, offering a complete story with a satisfying conclusion in just six minutes.
