Avis à la une
I finished it and actually liked it. However, I went back and binged the series to get a good idea what I was watching, and then watched this one again, and loved it!
Once you realize they are basically clueless, you can enjoy the reactions.
You have to just understand what it is first.
I feel like some of the low ratings were either because they were confused like I was or don't enjoy this type of comedy.
You're not rating an Oscar genre movie or even a typical comedy. You're watching sketch and should probably just take it for what it is.
I didn't laugh quite as much in this one, and I think maybe part of it was the format of having 3 'detectives' at once. Bateman had some hilarious scenes before Maya Rudolph showed up, and then I think it just got too... complex. They couldn't really play off of each other.
Don't get me wrong, Rudolph is great, particularly in Idiocracy and Brooklyn 99, but in terms of creative improv she was kind of a dud. Didn't really laugh much at anything she did.
And then for some dumb reason they brought in Pete Davidson for the last 10 minutes, who I still to this day struggle to see why anyone thinks is funny. Just basically came in and messed the whole thing up. Truly the Britta of the comedy universe.
Started off great, ended with a fizzle. I sort of wish that the guest stars would have tried a bit more and gotten more into it. I've seen dozens of live improv shows and it's easy to tell when people are dialing it in.
And he seems like a chill guy, but for the love of Pete, no more Davidson.
It's stupid fun. Bateman, Rudolph, and Davidson are all kept in the dark with the script. They are essentially doing improv while Will Arnett throws comedic roadblocks in their way. Bateman is a sarcastic b and he gives as good as he takes. Sean Hayes is the one who cannot stop laughing. He is a giggle machine. Rudolph is as quick as anyone else. It's nice for these guys to have some stupid fun.
All in all, it's worth committing 52 minutes of your life to.
I'm still not sure why Pete Davidson bothered showing up.
Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph were geniuses in this episode with Jason barely chuckling ocassionally at the natural silliness that was unfolding.
I laughed so hard at one point I was crying. This is not for folks looking for slapstick humour - this is dark sarcastic comedy at its finest! I imagine the negative reviews are from folks who just aren't into sarcasm.
The subtle nuances and clues and set touches really keep you on your toes to keep looking for the details!
Please - make more of these - for every season! They are fantastic!
Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesWhen told to do an elf dance, Jason Bateman did a little of GOB's chicken dance from Arrested Development.
- GaffesAt the end of the show, the two entry doors at the orphanage say "Pull" but Terry (the orphan, not Terry Seattle) pushes the door open to go inside.
