Mask Girl

This is based on a webtoon and congratulations to the casting crew as they managed to get very similar actors to the characters. It is a story about a girl who has craved fame since childhood but because she does not meet the required standards of beauty of society she fails not only in her quest for fame but also her personal life. She comes up with the idea of wearing a mask in her internet videos and she becomes popular, but from this comes a downward spiral as her life falls into chaos. There are 3 actors who play mask girl and the timeline moves forward and back but is well worth sticking with it as it does have an unexpected twist. The series can move slow at times but once the pressure ramps up you are really tensed up until the end. Well written adaptation and superbly acted, very much worth a watch.

This is another great Korean drama that is worth your time.

I had no idea what the story was going to be about and even as I was watching the show, I could not predict where the story would go.

I don't want to give too much away, but each episode is a unique point of view that progresses the plot and keeps the show fresh and unique.

The last couple of episodes bring to mind the early work of Park Chan Wook, which is never a bad thing.

I wish the US made shows like this, but it seems like Korea is producing far more interesting tv shows than the US.

I'd also advise watching it with subtitles rather than overdubs. The overdubs are never as good.

At first I wanted to quit watching halfway through the second episode. But I continued to watch and my opinion completely changed. Each series is a separate chapter, revealing one of the characters, and together they are intertwined into one crazy story.

If you like tough social dramas with a hint of bloody madness, good twists and cool actors, then this series is for you) in my opinion, the series is comparable in impressions with the Parasites, I rarely see something so ambiguous and interesting. The more I think about my viewing experience for writing this review, the more I like it. I will definitely watch it a second time.

It hits on a lot of things to reflect on which I liked. Dark side of obsession in so many forms really. The actors did a good job, the fact it is dubbed was nice as well.

It is pretty dark and brutal. Kind of over the top really. Prepare for a wild trip driven by the thoughtless traumatizing and traumatized spiralling everyone into the abyss.

It was a perspective I found sobering really. Some real pervs in this one. The online camming was really the least interesting part of the series which is what I thought it was going to be about. You will not guess where this goes, you just have to watch the entire thing.

Binged watched this in a day. With the way it started, I had no idea it would end up the way it did. Each episode got stranger and stranger, I had no idea what would come next or how the story would come to a cohesive end.

Insanely addictive though, loved the themes it explored, how attractiveness dictates how you get treated by others, stalking, obsession, toxic family dynamics and how that affects one's future...

It was quite dark too, without spoiling anything, a lot more graphic than I initially thought it would be. Each episode followed a certain character, at first I wasn't sure about this way of setting the story out- but I ended up enjoying it as it was something that I haven't seen done before.

Overall, if you like dark mini-series that explore heavy subjects, with a twinge of black comedy, I would recommend this for you.
