Avis à la une
Let's be honest, this is a silly low budget action that never takes itself seriously. And while a plethora of these films exist, this one stands far above the others in its execution and result.
It's absolutely hilarious. About half the comedy is slapstick, the rest a bit self degrading, a bit outrageous, it all just works. It's beyond farcical for most of the runtime, but keeps you watching anyways. Yes, you'll groan a lot, but you'll find yourself keep watching anyways.
The acting is excellent for a film of this nature. Jai White shines brighter than usual due to him having to not take himself seriously as he does in previous pure action roles. You'll recognize the rest of the cast from something you've seen before, notably Billy Zane as an humorous antagonist.
It's short, entertaining, and to the point. I wish we saw a lot more movies of this type - they're far more entertaining than a lot of the stuff coming out today, especially from streaming services.

Listen I love ridiculous concepts and this is one of those movies! The film left me laughing the entire way through! It's the first tubi original I did not hate! I loved this movie and I spent an entire month watching nothing but comedies when I came across this one. I didn't expect to like it much but I chose the film because I'm a fan of Evan Stern (Letterkenny) he's the one that plays the character who always says "ssstewarrrrrrt" incase you don't recognize the name! Anyways yeah I recommend the film especially if you love comedies that are just made for sheer fun and not going out of its way to be something "special".
Stumbling upon the 2024 action comedy "Sunset Superman", seeing that it was starring Michael Jai White, and it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I had to check out what writer and director Jason Krawczyk had to offer.
The storyline in the movie was actually rather enjoyable, as it was a nice combination of action and comedy. Writer Jason Krawczyk put together a good script, and I have to say that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 81 minutes that the movie ran for.
The acting performances in "Sunset Superman" were good. And Michael Jai White was nicely cast for the leading role and he carried the movie quite well. The only familiar faces on the screen were Michael Jai White and Billy Zane.
There is a good amount of action in the movie, and even some hilarious blood and gore. Yeah, that was quite a nice surprise, but a very welcomed one.
If you enjoy action comedies, then you should watch "Sunset Superman".
My rating of writer and director Jason Krawczyk's 2024 movie lands on a well-deserved six out of ten stars.

Great and fun movie with a since of nostalgia. I would describe the movie as a lighthearted but mature home alone. MJW is fantastic, hilarious, and loveable, as always. Solid 9 for me personally, I enjoyed the entire film. Iv always felt White is such an amazing and definitely over looked talent in the film industry. With his extensive martial arts training and choreography skills sets him a step above alone but he's also great at any chacter personality. Very comedic with great timing , has the ability to play a convincing underdog or a dominating force. If your a fan of martial arts/action films he has an impressive and entertaining library that I would recommend.
I didn't have any high expectations from "Don't Mess With Grandma," but I have to admit that in the end, I was entertained...and that's pretty much all I ask of a movie.
Michael Jai White plays a former Special Forces soldier who is visiting his grandma. She is hard of hearing as well as hard of seeing, which allows the unlikely plot of him being able to spend all night hiding the fact that droves of robbers are trying to steal her blind...so to speak. Said robbers are led by a barely recognizable Billy Zane, hidden behind a really absurd mustache.
The situations truly are ridiculous, but the cast doesn't take it seriously and is able to walk that "fine line between stupid and clever." White does a nice job with the humor, although the soliloquies are a little long. But if you can suspend disbelief long enough and just take the movie on its own attempt at mindless entertainment, you can probably enjoy it. It is what it is. Nothing special, but good for a few chuckles.

- AnecdotesOn the second day of filming, the original assistant director was heavily inebriated while driving the director, cinematographer, and script supervisor to the set. Realizing the danger they were in while speeding and swerving on a highway, the director gently "directed" the intoxicated driver to pull over. The AD stumbled out of the car and immediately fell asleep when hoisted into the passenger's seat-this left production without an AD until a replacement stepped in weeks later. Later, a note was delivered to the director from the original AD thanking him for taking care of him. The director then ripped the note apart, ate it, and stated, "That's something considering I wanted to beat the shit out of him."
