The Dive

The scenes with Common are becoming very cringe, and take away from a great show. He is thoroughly outclassed by the rest of the cast. His performance has had a single tone and emotion the entire show. He has no ability to create a character with any amount of depth or range. The scene where he has Bernard come to his office should have represented a turning point in their relationship. It felt no different than every other scene the two have shared. Tim Robbin's did a brilliant job expressing a heightened state of anger and emotion.

In a series built on tension, mystery, and complex interpersonal dynamics, Common's portrayal of the character seems to lack the depth and nuance that the script demands. His attempts at conveying internal conflict or emotional vulnerability often fall short, leaving his character feeling one-dimensional.

Why was he allowed to be in the show?

It's still building up but I think it's taking too long to achieve anything, unlike the first season. I'm mostly watching for Commons character Rob to die, hopefully off screen so we don't have to suffer anymore of his flaccid acting. It really does take you out of the episode watching actors around him accomodate his level of talent which is a shame.

The pace seems to be getting drawn out so that Juliette doesn't return till the last minute of the last episode and viewers will be left wondering

Tim Robbins character is floundering about. Bernard whipping out an iPad...if it was on Amazon I'd be expecting Alexa to be giving us the red ring for WiFi being down.

Hopefully the sheriffs department gets something meaty in the new few episodes.

In this show, the characters of Lukas, Juliette, and Solo are forced to deal with a silo leak and the mystery of who Solo is. Mechanical continues to rally up the lower levels, proving power in numbers. Lukas is introduced to a database reserved for Bernard's shadow, but he struggles to decipher a letter from Salvador Quinn. Bernard discovers that Lukas needs an item not in the database, which is a copy of The Wizard Of Oz by Frank L. Baum. Bernard confronts Sims, who reveals that Lukas is his shadow and that his wife Camille was responsible for Shirley and Knox's escape. They manage to keep each other in the loop, but Sims is loyal to anyone who will benefit them, which may not be Bernard. The bond between Sims and Camille is dangerous, as Bernard will soon release information about their relationship. Bernard may have a mole in Carla, who is revealed to be Walker's ex-wife. He needs to know how much gunpowder and supplies Mechanical has, but Walker manages to repair a camera so she can turn it on just long enough for IT to learn she has it. As Mechanical continues to prove themselves to be masterminds, they receive a threat against Shirely and Knox, prompting Sheriff Billings and Hank to get involved. However, the minor plot point is resolved when they discover the chef who warned everyone about the poisoned food was also behind the threat. Knox refuses to punish her as IT would, bringing the lower levels together and creating an even closer-knit community. Juliette is stuck with Solo, working to stop the leak while still unable to swim. Juliette returns to the surface to find Solo missing, revealing that someone has captured him. The evidence of a trail of blood reveals that they have been living in the silo unnoticed for a long time. The episodes continue to enthrall and interest the reader, with multiple plots and alliances being key to the story. Bernard's handling of these constant issues is impressive, as he hasn't lost his mind or taken his frustrations out on innocent people. The biggest build-up for the reader is what Lukas will learn and how it will affect him. Meadows' death has caused irreversible damage, but the reader wonders if Lukas will have a better capacity for such truth and what will happen to him once Salvador Quinn's letter is deciphered. My favorite part of the episode is the discussion of the rest of the silo, including their suspicions about Meadows' death, Sims becoming the new Judge, Beranrd's skepticism, trust in Mechanical, and whether Juliette survived. The majority of the silo seems to agree with Mechanical and turn on Bernard, but this could lead to an inevitable silo collapse with thousands dead for the betterment of the silo itself.

The character of his wife should star in her own show, Wife Knows Best. Why not just make *her* the badass from Judicial who struts around threateningly and knows everything, instead of this weird dynamic. He went from shady scary guy to a paralyzed git who needs someoneto explain his own expertise to him. If only there was a name for that.. : The long and the short of it is someone OD'd on their Lady Macbeth pills when writing the scenes with Common and the wife, and overstepped. That man is not the man from season 1, who exuded malicious competence. Her experience as a guard could have been handled much better to dovetail with his. It's very boring to have every suggestion that she makes just blindly followed by him as if he's a noob, instead of their two experiences slowly being pitted against each other. Then we would wonder if they are going to actually ever cooperate or just grow further apart and maybe even one kills the other.

First, I'll say something about the episode. Solo warns Juliette about the bends. But apparently Juliette didn't dive deep enough for this to be a factor, something neither she nor Solo would reasonably be expected to know.

But this still violates Anton Chekov's rule about the gun. If you show a gun in the first act, it better go off by the end of the play. There was no reason to even mention the bends if it wasn't going to be a factor.

Anyway the bigger news is, I figured out why this show is so slow, and why so many Apple series are weird misfires (generally slow and bad in other ways). Apple is trying to sell you movies and series. When you get bored of their freebie originals and go roaming around, the stuff for sale looks so much better.

If Silo was a rip-snorting, pulse-pounding adventure, you wouldn't go roaming around looking for something better. Apple didn't become a $3 trillion behemoth by accident.
