Résumé
Reviewers say 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' garners mixed reviews. Praise is given for its gripping narrative, strong performances, and high production values. However, criticisms include poor writing, lack of depth in character development, and inconsistent pacing. Some find the portrayal of hijackers controversial and insensitive. Factual inaccuracies and a biased narrative are also noted. Technical aspects like color grading and sound design receive complaints. Despite these issues, many find the series engaging and worth watching.
Avis à la une
For once, a Hindi series is highlighting the correct facts and telling a real story without glorifying it with fabricated details. This show presents how the incompetence of political governments can cause significant damage and how decisions are often driven by political motives rather than the public's best interests.
The series is well-made, with strong visual effects and a solid script. The negative ratings and reviews likely stem from a new mindset that anything not in favor of India cannot be considered true. However, facts and truth remain unchangeable.
The series will keep you engaged until the final episode. It isn't unnecessarily prolonged, avoids irrelevant content, and stays on point from beginning to end.
Do watch it, it's worth your time.

*IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack* offers a decent take on a major historical event, but it falls short in truly captivating the audience. The 6-episode format does keep you engaged to some extent, especially with its tight script and good performances. Vijay Varma and Arvind Swamy were highlights for me, but many characters felt underdeveloped, leaving their stories hanging midway.
The series mixes real-life footage well, but the emotional depth and tension that such a story demands are missing. While it's not terrible, it's also not groundbreaking. Worth watching if you have time, but not a must-see. Solid 7/10.

I am a politically neutral person and I'm not rating this based on the controversy created by the jobless RW propaganda creators. This tv show is actually boring and overhyped. Right from the beginning of the 1at episode I felt that it lacked the factor to capture the viewer's interest. The screenplay is slow paired with the poor direction. The dialogues are also very dull and I couldn't feel any thrill while watching the episode. Instead of wasting my time I think I'm better off skipping the remaining episodes. A better and more engaging screenplay would have made it a good watch. However it's boring and not worth watching.
Plethora of facts and information are available 25 years after this horrific incident. The series, even with 6 episodes of decent duration, misses many of them. Many events portrayed in the series fail to connect with the main story line making viewers feel if they were even needed in the first place. Stellar cast, but wasted potential either due to lack of screen time or forced presence in the story. Flight crew acting is terrible! Actors & script do not seem to convey the seriousness of the situation at all. Youtube documentaries about this hijack will probably have better information in a shorter duration.
What could have been!! A great chance to make a high quality movie based on facts - A tragedy that shook the nation, instead it has so many loopholes, stoked acting and weak dialogues, despite having some top notch actors.
Most of the time you feel the characters have just memorised their lines. The worst are the hijackers!!
However, what it does show (maybe inadvertently) is the total lack of a proper crisis management policy, which I'm hoping is not the case any more.
It was nice to see Dia, Nasseruddin, Pankaj, and a few others but sadly their roles were not not well etched. Vikram was acceptable.
It was funny to see passengers faces during the hijack, to be seen simply sitting expressionless as if watching a movie of their TV screens.
A quickly forgotten mess.

- AnecdotesArvind Swami and Pankaj Kapoor reunites after 32 years since Roja, which was also a movie based on similar plot - an Islamic separatist group (lead by Pankaj Kapoor) kidnapping an Indian army officer (Arvind Swami) in Kashmir while demanding release of their fellow terrorist.
- GaffesThroughout the series, Captain Dev hand-flies the aircraft and makes most of the radio calls, while the first officer and flight engineer rarely speak and often don't seem to be doing anything.
Professional pilots and flight engineers are trained to operate as a team and continuously cross-check each other's actions, and the flight engineer's primary job is to execute checklists. To reduce workload and the chances of making mistakes, it is typical for one pilot to fly the aircraft ("pilot flying") while the other navigates, watches the instruments, and operates the radios and auxiliary systems ("pilot monitoring"), and for the pilots to rely heavily on the autopilot at the top of the instrument panel. (The first officer or copilot is only subservient with respect to decision-making; both pilots know how to operate every system in the cockpit, and the roles switch back and forth freely.) In a real airliner, the pilots would divide the work to a much greater degree, would talk to one another constantly during takeoff and landing, and would frequently use the autopilot, while the flight engineer would be verbally executing checklists and cross-checking various flight instruments and controls.
