Avis à la une
This is the type of show that will ruin Netflix. Its very foreseeable, very unrealistic and sometimes even very cringe worthy. I wouldnt recommend this show anyone except maybe MMA fans and French people (since it's a French production). The only positive thing are the MMA cameos. But other than that I hate the unrealistic storytelling, like it's the type of show where before every fight the main character suddenly gets confronted with some random problem and has to go somewhere before the fight which would never happen in real life. Or someone tells him something depressing right before the fight so the fight gets a little more interesting which it really needs because the fights are incredibly boring and unrealistic. Like, when the main character starts punching the opponent suddenly drops his defense for no reason at all. And this doesn't happen once but a lot of times, it really ruins the show for me. I can't really explain it, it's like watching a race with RC cars, a 3D Anime, a vegan burger, coffee with too much sugar, a controller with stick drift, you can watch it but you won't enjoy it, except if youre used to trash tv. 5/10 at most. Stop creating unrealistic, childish movies/tv shows you're ruining entertainment.
" La Cage " it's like a new creed version but adapted on TV Show from France and it make weird to watch this type of content in other country than USA and it's pretty good cause it bring something else, very different but for me the TV show was too short and too unnatural a little bit !!!
For me it's too bad that the tv show during only 5 episodes I was the feeling that things happened too fast into the story, that's cool cause you don't feel boring or annoying at all and this is a very good point cause it's very the issue from screenwriters but there no matter with that but for 3 additional episodes will be great in order to know a bit more about the past of the main protagonist, explore more his family's trouble and some things else ... like this you feel more compassion for the character and the story and 8 or 9 episodes will be great to have a better story it's too bad !!!
But for me the script it's very good l, don't feel boring at all but if things could be happened more slowly it will be better unfortunately !!!!
The directing from Frank Gastambide was great like we used to see with his projects all credit on him never disappointed from him !!!
The acting was good but sometimes I felt some moment unnatural I don't know for why but that's I was feeling unfortunately!!!!
But the soundtrack, the shoots and twist was very great I think so that all MMA fan spent a good time cause it was very nice show even if for me, take more times about the story without go too fast will be great !!!
The quality of lights playing and CGI during fights was great too !!!

I saw a some clip of this show on Netflix with Jon jones and decided to give it a watch I was intrigued by the cameos made in the show . However in the beginning the plot seem basic , and very predictable. Winning over the coach / boss trust of a local mma fighting gym to give him a shot a bigger fights against pros . Throughout the show there were some twist and turns that I appreciated to give it more spontaneity and unpredictability which I liked . The cinematography was amazing however the dialogue and overall acting form the characters felt bland and lack true emotion and depth . I wished they would've added more realism and depth to the characters like the protagonist mother the lives of side characters instead of just having the center focus of Taylor . Only 5 episodes was surprising I watched in one sitting expecting another episode as the last episode left a lot of unanswered questions and this show could've easily been 10 episodes . I wonder if there is going to be a second episode of this show or is this it because if it only has 5 episodes that would truly be underwhelming. Show could be better but I see the vision and understand the characters that were prorated . The fights looks realistic and especially the last fight felt like i was watching an actual main card fight from ufc ppv .
"The Cage" brings a fresh take to the French television landscape, presenting a unique concept that holds a lot of potential. However, while I found the show entertaining enough to watch through, I came away with mixed feelings. In my opinion, there were some notable shortcomings that kept the series from reaching its full potential.
First, the length of the series felt surprisingly short. It seemed as though the creators were aiming for a fast-paced narrative, but the compact nature of the episodes left much to be desired in terms of depth. With more episodes, or longer ones, I think "The Cage" could have provided a richer experience by allowing the characters and story to develop more naturally. As it stands, certain storylines felt rushed, and some characters lacked the growth I would have expected, making it harder to fully connect with the cast and their experiences.
The pacing ties into another issue: the overall plot quality. There's a sense of originality, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that the storyline was somewhat superficial. The central themes are intriguing, but without a more intricate plot or layered character development, the story came across as basic at times. I wanted more complexity or even just a few twists to keep me engaged. Instead, the plot stayed on a straightforward path, which unfortunately made it predictable.
Another drawback was the show's tone and delivery, which felt a bit forced and unnatural. The dialogue, in particular, seemed scripted rather than flowing with the authenticity that can make a series truly engaging. This created a disconnect, as the conversations sometimes lacked the spontaneity and realism that draw viewers in. It's possible that the creators wanted to capture a stylized feel, but in my view, this approach didn't fully succeed and left the characters seeming one-dimensional in certain scenes.
While "The Cage" isn't without its strengths, such as its cinematography and occasional standout moments, these elements didn't completely make up for the weaker aspects. Visually, the series is well-composed, and some scenes display artistic touches that were enjoyable. But ultimately, a show needs to be driven by more than aesthetics to be memorable, and here, the style didn't entirely compensate for the substance.
In summary, "The Cage" was an interesting watch, but one that left me wanting more in terms of depth, realism, and complexity. I would recommend it if you're looking for something light and brief, but for those seeking a more immersive, high-quality drama, this series might not meet your expectations. Despite its intriguing premise, it seems to fall short in execution.

After a couple of episodes I started cheering against the main character. He is unlikable, makes ridiculous decisions and he constantly has a constipated or frustrated look on his face. He comes across as a generic meat-head with no depth. The rest of the characters are just as one dimensional.
I understand what they were trying to achieve. A young hungry contender gets an opportunity and fights his way to the top. Unfortunately the writers decided to take every possible shortcut then added a bunch of pointless forced conflicts in an amateurish attempt to create tension.
It's a shame the creators of the show decided against doing something a little more imaginative.
