Avis à la une
A terrible movie saved by a bizarre third act. Some of the characters and plot points have been done before, you find yourself laughing at the movie rather than being scared, and the story doesn't really make sense. But the overall metaphor and core concept is intact, and there are some truly wild moments.
Granted, despite of never having heard about the 2025 horror movie "The Other", of course I opted to watch it simply because it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen. I am a huge fan of all things horror, after all. And I sat down to watch the movie without knowing what I was in for, and thus harbored no expectations.
Writer Paul Etheredge put together a rather odd script and storyline. Now, I am not saying that "The Other" was bad, but it was a very odd storyline. I enjoyed it, though, I have to admit, because there was something profoundly disturbing about the narrative and the events that unfolded. It was a nicely constructed narrative from writer Paul Etheredge.
The only familiar faces on the cast list for me were Dylan McTee, Phuong Kubacki and Shawnee Smith. The acting performances in the movie were good.
There is a lot of interesting visual scenes in the movie, and the effects are nice. So that definitely added to the overall enjoyment of the movie. Some of the scenes might be a bit difficult for particularly sensitive people. But as a seasoned horror veteran, then this was a mere walk in the park. I liked the special effects and visuals used in the movie, no doubt about that.
If you enjoy horror movies and like horror movies that go one step beyond and sort of ventures into something disturbing, then by all means give "The Other" a go. I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 98 minutes that the movie played for.
My rating of writer and director Paul Etheredge's 2025 movie "The Other" lands on a six out of ten stars.

More of a thriller than a horror, I found myself more invested with every minute! Great acting, cinematography and clever characters that feel real and authentic. And of course, a bonkers, over the top ending that still has me a little shook!
I saw this film thinking it would be a standard horror flick, but it was so much more. The story has depth, heart and showcases young, super talented actors in unique roles.
The script, cinematography and practical effects make The Other feels like it has a much larger budget. This independent film proves that with truly talented people behind the wheel, it doesn't take a huge budget to create a memorable and fun film. This is perfect film to insert into your regular Halloween rotation!

I thought this movie went down real smooth! Definitely had some pretty squeamish parts and good scares but didn't leave me lying awake at night which I appreciate. I thought the characters were solid! Fiona was great, and her mom, Lizzie, provided some nice levity/ a different tone. The actor who played Daniel had a great presence about him, too. Honestly, they all turned in great performances.
Also shoutout to the special effects and props team on this one, I bet they had a ton of fun putting it together (trying not to spoil anything in particular!) If you're a fan of the genre, this is definitely worth a watch!

The story follows Robin and Daniel, a couple struggling with infertility who decide to foster Kathelia, a mute orphan with a traumatic past. What begins as an act of love and hope gradually transforms into a nightmare as supernatural forces and the child's dark history collide in their home
It is a rare gem in contemporary horror - a film that respects its audience's intelligence while delivering genuine frights. It's a testament to what can be achieved when talented filmmakers approach horror with both craft and heart. This is destined to become a cult classic.
Highly recommended for fans of: Psychological horror, supernatural thrillers, and anyone who appreciates expertly crafted tension.
