Avis à la une
This film combines the body horror of Alien with the psychological horror of Rosemary's Baby to produce its dark cinematic progeny. It's a viscerally unsettling film that will haunt you long after you've watched it. The film builds slowly but with increasing intensity until it has you in its grip. The brutal imagery is overwhelming at times, but it works well with the subtle story line. The editing is superb, and once you're in the grip of the film, it doesn't let you go until the end. Give yourself to this film, let it take you over, and give it time to gestate. This is horror as it's meant to be: dark, haunting, brutal, and ultimately purgative.
I thought this movie went down real smooth! Definitely had some pretty squeamish parts and good scares but didn't leave me lying awake at night which I appreciate. I thought the characters were solid! Fiona was great, and her mom, Lizzie, provided some nice levity/ a different tone. The actor who played Daniel had a great presence about him, too. Honestly, they all turned in great performances.
Also shoutout to the special effects and props team on this one, I bet they had a ton of fun putting it together (trying not to spoil anything in particular!) If you're a fan of the genre, this is definitely worth a watch!

The story follows Robin and Daniel, a couple struggling with infertility who decide to foster Kathelia, a mute orphan with a traumatic past. What begins as an act of love and hope gradually transforms into a nightmare as supernatural forces and the child's dark history collide in their home
It is a rare gem in contemporary horror - a film that respects its audience's intelligence while delivering genuine frights. It's a testament to what can be achieved when talented filmmakers approach horror with both craft and heart. This is destined to become a cult classic.
Highly recommended for fans of: Psychological horror, supernatural thrillers, and anyone who appreciates expertly crafted tension.

More of a thriller than a horror, I found myself more invested with every minute! Great acting, cinematography and clever characters that feel real and authentic. And of course, a bonkers, over the top ending that still has me a little shook!
I saw this film thinking it would be a standard horror flick, but it was so much more. The story has depth, heart and showcases young, super talented actors in unique roles.
The script, cinematography and practical effects make The Other feels like it has a much larger budget. This independent film proves that with truly talented people behind the wheel, it doesn't take a huge budget to create a memorable and fun film. This is perfect film to insert into your regular Halloween rotation!

The Other starts off slow, focusing on atmosphere and character as foster parents Robin and Daniel welcome the mysterious, mute Kathelia into their home. While the pacing may test your patience early on, it steadily builds unease with subtle supernatural elements and a growing sense that something is deeply wrong. Once it hits its stride, the film becomes intensely disturbing, with gory, haunting visuals that stick with you. Paul Etheredge leans into dread and emotional tension rather than cheap scares, making the payoff feel earned. If you're into slow-burn horror with a brutal edge, this one is worth watching.
