Michelle Wolf: It's Great to Be Here

Comedy, as a genre of entertainment, is truly in its death throes. It is nothing at this point but pinheaded, partisan tantrums, with an unhealthy dose of innuendo to make it go down easier. Few people display this decline in comedy more than Michelle Wolf. You may see people reviewing her negatively based on superficial things like her voice, which is silly. I don't care what she sounds like. What I care about is what she acts like. The things she says and does. And in that regard, she definitely comes up wanting. I don't think the world will ever know if she was capable of actual comedy or not. I will say that I don't see any evidence that she can do comedy from this. What she chooses to bring to the table over and over again isn't entertainment. Rather than try to be funny, she has chosen to be obnoxious, vulgar, preachy, and generally disagreeable. I guess that's what she thinks the public wants, or worse, she has a massive chip on her shoulder and thinks that's what the public deserves. Regardless, this is a truly dire helping of bad-tempered, raunchy ramblings masquerading as humor and is not recommended in the least.

Michelle is hilarious and one of my favorite comics. I met her in person once too and she was very cool. Her jokes are on point as always and this special is a must-watch for stand up comedy fans.

That said, theres something up with the audio. From what I can tell, theres either a brutal laugh track or the audio guy messed up the balance between the comic and the audience. The over the top laughter is distracting and annoying. It sounds like a "Two and a Half Men" fake studio audience.

So yeah, enjoy the comedy, and hopefully the annoying audio doesn't bug you. Or tell me I'm crazy. Maybe it'll sound just fine to you.

If you're looking for smart witty comedy you'll be disappointed. Her roast on CC are great but this isn't her best material. I started to cringe five minutes into it. She starts off with a joke about a disability then it's crass gay joke after gay joke. She's obviously not homophobic but came across that way for laughs. I wonder if Margaret Cho has a support group she can join.

It's called "great to be here" but comes across more like "please like me". She's like the person at the party who won't take the hint. You try to avoid getting trapped in a conversation as she sticks her foot in her mouth.

No pun intended - I am not sure, if the material shown here is all from one show. It's probably more than one - but Michelle is funny ... really funny. If she actually is living in Europe now, it clearly gave her a new perspective. She is able to talk about the US, but also had the distance to know how things can be ... if they actually work (in favor of the people).

Plus she can see differences - not everything is great in Europe - but maybe she can tell people about the good things she experienced. Of course she is also good at telling jokes about sex - and as a woman she is able to go places that ... may hurt to hear! No matter if you are a man or a woman. She can joke about stuff and it works too. Some still may be offended by what she says - but comedy is not always a safe haven ... it is about taking risks to tell some "truths" - or at least make people think about. There are many grey areas ... and we are not all the same ... which of course is a good thing ... but can be quite divisive too ... just sit back, relax and have a laugh .. or two ... and then think about what she said ... new perspective? Good.
