Jack Whitehall: Fatherhood with My Father

American here. I thought this was hysterical and poignant. The relationship between father and son, mother and son, and now son and daughter was funny and touching. Not sure why people found this to be low humor. I expect it's probably people that took the American jokes too personally. Michael and Jack have a keen wit, enough credibility and seriousness to get into places and cars many of us weren't aware of and do it with humor and intelligence. Is it showing a side of Americans that is fatalistic and dark? Yes. But that's where we are here. I loved this and laughed right along with them. Loved Jack and Michael's first Netflix show as well.

Jack and his father Michael are usually quite humorous with their understated comedy, but somehow this show didn't quite hit the mark. I've seen other comedians or actors share all this material previously, especially ham fisted attempts for a male to demonstrate what a female goes through with pregnancy and birth. The over the top protestations of how difficult and painful it must be are lame. Anyone who's been through it already knows this, it's not remotely funny for a man to pretend he gets the experience. It was all just too full of cliche and hyperbole. Here's a tip - the show will be way better if he can make comedy from it after the baby is born and it's real birth and real parenthood , both of which will offer a wealth of material.

I've really enjoyed the past series, but this I hope is the last. The first episode was so cringey jack supposedly looking anxious at becoming a father for the first time asking his privileged father for advice. If it goes tits up I'm sure jack could hire a nanny then palm them of to boarding school as he was. I'm surprised Netflix commissioned this rubbish, & jack agreeing to it but I suppose he got a free trip to LA with dad. I didn't even bother with episode 2 as I think most of the viewing public hasn't. Go back to standup and sitcoms. I wouldn't bother with the rest of the episodes I'm sure it's the same drivel. They have also roped in Hilary his mother who is so irritating, don't know if she contributes anything, still I suppose it's a job & she's well paid. Netflix wise up you've exhausted this family saga try something new & original.

I love the relationship between Jack and Michael and it's not about fatherhood but such a great lighthearted show. The ai show when dancing has me in stitches. They are so easy to love and seeing Jack take on fatherhood was under his dad's wings was hugely entertaining and enjoyable. Definitely recommend for a very lighthearted watch and just to laugh out loud. It's very different from there other shows but Jack and Michael's one lines are amazing and there expression about dogging is very clever. Watching makes you want to phone up your dad and make funny jokes. Funny, lighthearted and a great watch. Highly recommend.

Whilst the show has it's moments of humour (akin to Travels) I was disappointed that it shows exactly zero of the realities of parenting. The show was very obviously prepared and filmed beforehand and is a poor imitation of Travels rather than anything particularly to do with fatherhood.
