Death Streamer

Given my love of all things horror, of course I had to check out the 2024 movie "Death Streamer" from director Charles Band.

Writers Charles Band and Neal Marshall Stevens put together a pretty laughable and boring storyline. I was struggling to keep feigning an interest in the movie, and the fact that there was nothing interesting going on throughout the course of the mind-bogglingly boring 72 minutes didn't help win me over.

One thing that worked in favor of the movie was the fact that I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting performances in "Death Streamer" were fair.

Visually then the movie was okay, definitely a step up from the usual amateurish effects that Full Moon Features have been utilizing for far too long. But mind you, the movie was not one that made use of an abundance of special effects.

Usually Full Moon Features tend to make fairly okay movies, but I have to say that "Death Streamer" was a swing and a miss. For a life-long horror fan, this movie just didn't have enough bite, pardon the pun.

My rating of Charles Band's 2024 horror movie "Death Streamer" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars.

The Plot: A vampire opts to adapt to the modern age by employing technologically advanced glasses that enable him to not only hunt his victims in and out of the virtual world...but also LIVE STREAM his bloody feasts for all to see.

The movie is decently filmed however it suffers in pretty much all the other areas. The acting is atrocious. These actors will never make it big. They are the juvie squad.

The script is laughable. The dialog is so cheesy you will find yourself laughing out loud. And not because you're supposed to.

The only redeeming quality to this film is the short running length of just over an hour.

Looking to launch their show, a trio of internet sleuths catch wind of the emerging viral craze of a special killer who livestreams his antics online and begin investigating him only to realize they've angered a vampire carrying out the murders and must find a way of stopping him.

This was a fairly solid and likable enough genre effort. The main starting point with this one offers a great overall idea about the concept of the centuries-old vampire adapting to modern technology by livestreaming his feeding tactics involving seducing and killing random women at his parties hosted in lavish settings which generate tons of viewership and wanting to get in on the action. This comes off well enough with the investigation into who's doing it that soon turns them into targets when the material brings them together as a means of trying to use everything for their site and uncovering the truth about how he operates including drugging his victim, getting them alone, and then draining them in full view of his audience as the discovery of the obscure anatomical details to illustrate their interest in what's going on. With these scenes focused on some bloodsoaked encounters full of nudity to go along with the bloodshed to let a dark ritual play out, there's some fun to be had with this one. There are some big issues here that hold it back. Most of that is based heavily on the storyline which makes no sense and has quite a bit of flaws present within here. As there's never any reason why the main vampire decides to livestream his kills to others so they know what's going on, why he's targeting people, or what he hopes to accomplish since others can find out who he is anyway, there's a decided lack of threat to the villain with his immensely convoluted and barely cognizant main plan. Likewise, the whole purpose of continuing to antagonize and egg on the lead vampire who's trying to kill them is a rather clueless notion based on how the logic behind it is carried out for how they get the idea of continuing which again makes for some questionable motivations from the story as a whole. Combined with some obvious low-budget limitations that show up at times, it has some problematic issues at times.

Surprisingly competently shot for a Full Moon movie. It has good lighting of the actors and a few different sets. However, the entire movie takes place in only a few rooms indoors.

The actors also are surprisingly decent for a Full Moon movie, which is a very low bar. Their dialogue may be horrendous and make no sense, but at least they can say it somewhat convincingly and not make me suspect they are reading it directly from a cue card.

However, this movie's script and dialogue almost too awful to believe. Things in the movie just happen without explanation. For example, the titular "Death Streamer" never gives a reason for choosing to stream his actions online. He would probably be able to get away with his bizarre murders more easily if he simply chose not to don his ridiculous pair of online streaming eyeglasses while doing so! The dialogue also jumps around randomly, with characters saying things in conversation that is not logically tied to what the other character just said to them, as if they skipped ahead in the script.

The Death Streamer's modus operandi of giving women a drugged drink, exposing their breasts and then killing them also seems quite convoluted. He doesn't want sex, he just wants the women to be topless when he murders them, for some unknown reason! It seems this was the real purpose of the film - to show this sequence of events at least four times.

The only entertainment value of this movie lies in mocking it while admiring the brief glimpses of attractive women who parade through the film.
