The whole storyline feels like it's written by an AI language model and not even by a somewhat decent writer. The premise is a cheap anti-utopia without any deep ideas, and the world-building is just awfully naive.
The direction is all over the place. Every complex scene is filled with frequent cuts to hide the problems during filming.

As a fan of Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), I have to say, I do like an unabashed sci-fi that revels in it's own silliness. This film however is by no means Iron Sky. Even with an 85 minute run time, it feels like sitting through a three hour episode of the worst Outer Limits episode ever; the only problem being there's no cool twist at the end and it was written by a child who has never seen a movie.
Avoid.
Avoid.

Whoever did the sound did a real bad job. It sounds dubbed. Sometimes the characters sound like being in a big room when talking in the street.
The action scenes are completely laughable. When the anti genetics slaughter everyone in a restaurant there is not a drop of blood.
The grand piano was obviously made of cardboard. Common.
The editing is is equally terrible.
I just watched it to see if it was really consistenly bad. It is.

If IMDb allowed zero stars, this movie would've earned it proudly. Calling it a "film" feels generous - it's more like a 2-hour reminder of how carelessly entertainment is made today. Nothing in it respects the viewer. Not the story, not the characters, not even basic logic.
The plot wanders without purpose, as if the writers came up with scenes on the spot. There's no structure, no buildup, no payoff - just random events stitched together and labelled as a movie. Every emotional moment feels forced, every joke lands flat, and every dramatic scene collapses under its own confusion.
The actors look like they're waiting for the paycheck rather than living inside their roles. Expressions are blank, line delivery is lazy, and chemistry between characters is nonexistent. You keep waiting for them to bring the story to life, but there is no life to bring.
The visuals try to distract you with flashy shots and loud music, hoping you won't notice the emptiness underneath. Instead of enhancing anything, the effects make the lack of substance even louder. It's all style with zero honesty.
What makes this movie worth exactly one star is not that it's bad - plenty of bad movies have charm. This one has none. It wastes time, wastes talent, and wastes patience. When the credits rolled, the only real feeling was irritation: this didn't deserve two hours of anyone's life.
If you're thinking of watching it out of curiosity - don't. There's nothing to learn, nothing to enjoy, and nothing to remember. Spend your time on a film made with some pride. This one doesn't have any.

First: the intro info dump. It was like they did a single read and yelled GOOD ENOUGH! Its really bad.
The short and simple: The world was nuked. Humanity rebuilt. Some people got mild powers and now live the high life while those who dont live in super poverty.
I feel like they got all of the actors (and I do mean ALL) from a local community theater audition. Not the local community theater performers, but people auditioning for it.
The lines are stiff, clumsy, and poorly acted out. The writing is pretty bad. The characters actions are overly performative to the point it seems like this is a movie aimed at kids.
The accents of the actors are ALL over the place, and it becomes very distracting as they attempt to sound American but keep falling into their fairly heavy accents. They seem to have gotten many English as a second language actors who are doing their best, but unfortunately their best is embarrassing.
The world itself is kind of neat. Its got that "what we think the future will look like from the 80's" vibe. Everything in the high-tech cities are silver metal and blue glass. A lot of the actual world building is pretty bad, but it looks cool.
The "special" district is, of course, rundown and crappy looking. (And if you're a C tier movie, dont mention THX 1138. Seriously.)
The story is bland and boring. Its not really anything that hasnt been explored before, but worse. Its basically xmen vs normal humanity, if the xmen were lame. They're basically just barely better than 'normal humans'.
You can safely skip this one unless you're desperate for a mediocre sci-fi flick that could have been worthwhile with a better script and actors. There was a lot of potential here with the sets and locations and costumes but that was really the only positives. What a waste!

While sci-fi is generally not my go-to type of movies for entertainment, I do sit down to watch the occasional one every now and again. And thus, as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch "Altered", without knowing what I was in for here, I opted to give the movie a fair chance. I had actually never even heard about the movie prior to stumbling upon it by sheer random luck.
The storyline was pretty straightforward, and actually proved entertaining enough for what it was, so writer Timo Vuorensola did manage to pull it off well enough here.
Of the entire cast ensemble in the movie, I was only familiar with Tom Felton and Richard Brake. The acting performances in "Altered" were good.
Visually then the movie was actually good. I liked the special effects and the way that writer and director Timo Vuorensola opted to present the somewhat bleak dystopian future that the movie was set in.
Watchable, for sure, but "Altered" is hardly a movie with contents to support more than a single viewing.
My rating of writer and director Timo Vuorensola's 2025 movie "Altered" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Trailer made it look ok. Was an unwatchable 90mins. Poor mix of characters, accents, and the main actor is still living off his Harry Potter days. The noise the suit makes while moving around and the premise for the "flower" suit made it comical. Actions scenes terrible. I don't usually do reviews but this was BAD.

Started with a tiny spark, died instantly. Terrible script, awkward dialogue, scenes that make no sense, uneven acting (even Tom Felton looks bored), and the only "original" idea is a lame flower-power suit. Familiar, cheap, boring; kept waiting for it to end. Easily one of the worst I've seen this year. Hard 4/10. Skip it.
A classic B-movie with great potential! The writing for the characters were non-existent, ab-lip improvising may have done a better job. It looked-like the actors paid for their own props and costumes! AI would ave done a better job for CGI including the lack-of cinematic surround-views which could've included more back-ground details based on the story-line! The acting I did not mind, as everyone seemed comfortable on-what they were-doing!

While the idea and plot itself actually really wasn't the worst, and environments were depicted properly. Some effects were "enough" to know what's going on even though all I saw was "strength" and some weird effects with "flowers". The execution itself lacked severely; Tom tried to do this justice, I feel; I didn't love it per say. As did his colleagues. It just felt like a short movie made by foreigners (non-native English) being dragged out too long while still hopping from branch to tree. Audio editing was subpar and uneven, and I saw a lot of scene cuts that were supposed to depict the chosen soundtrack and vibe, but just missed it entirely creating the feeling of incompleteness and unneeded chaos... Did this movie flop in my opinion? Sadly, yes.

I gave this 2 stars and thats generous to be honest, some of the worst acting I have ever seen, even Tom felton couldn't save this movie, do yourself a favour and give it a miss, I have suffered through this so you don't have to, it's hard to think of a film that is worse than this, think of robocop 3 and how bad that was and this is worse so that kind of gives you an idea where this movie is at.

I've not seen a movie in a long time, like since the eighties, that I thought was so bad that it was good. There's a lot of people saying it's terrible but I really enjoyed it, it was fun. Tom Felton was great, the other cast weren't bad, the scenery CGI and effects were pretty decent the weird dubbing made it interesting. I am a big sci fi fan and I have enjoyed many massively hyped big budget movies a lot less than this. It's nice to see an honest throwback like this where they aren't using old IP or actively trying to make it look like an old trashy so bad it's good movie it just IS one!

Had good potential, was a good idea for a movie, but the acting was absolutely terrible, the dubbing stood out so bad you may as well have dubbed it in a different language. Absolutely terrible movie, wish I could give it half a star. The only thing that made it watchable was the way it was directed.

Watching Altered makes you wonder if humanity really progressed at all, centuries of art, literature, music, theatre, cinema, and technology, only to regress into something like this. The only thing this movie has "altered" is probably the neurons in people's brains, and only by decreasing them.
This film has a debilitating effect on taste. You feel that all the atoms and electrons in the air were completely wasted to create this "art". I can't believe money was burned on something this bad. This one makes you feel sad. I honestly feel bad for everyone involved, for the actors, for the grips, for the electricians, for the driver, for the people who made the food. No one deserved to be part of something this tasteless.
From the directing, to the acting, to the music, everything collapses. Sure, the sets look fine, it's the future, great, but the rest is unbelievably bad. It's genuinely annoying to watch acting this awful in the 21st century when we have so many brilliant performances to reference. What is this? Were they competing to see who could deliver the worst acting in the history of the world? Fine, it's not the absolute worst acting ever, but it's right there next to it, proudly introducing itself as "almost the worst acting ever".
Stop making crap films like this. Stop it. Stop financing crap like this. There are so many great ideas, so many talented people who can make truly great films. Stop ignoring them. Stop making this garbage. You're making us dumb.

Altered tries to deliver tension and horror, but ends up feeling messy and unfocused. The pacing is slow, the characters are forgettable, and the plot never becomes truly engaging. A few creepy moments, but overall it's a disappointing and weak movie.
I hate the acting and storyline is horrible- watch it with ur partner if u want her to break up with you.

So happy to see Tom back on the big screen! It's a good light movie for everyone - you can both have a good laugh and reflect on important things. The cast is excellent,Tom and the young actress work great together.
Of course, there are some flaws in the script. The film isn't a masterpiece, but it works perfectly for a general audience.

The whole story was horrible and the cuts made it worse. The acting was disgusting and the storyline not linear. One of the worse movie of the year. The action scenes were idiotic. They just wasted money on those actors. It should be illegal to watch this movie. It really made me waste my time. Don't watch it.

The story idea for this was pretty decent, but the movie was just really bad. Terrible writing and directing, inevitably leading to bad acting. I almost got halfway through but I just couldn't finish it. I feel bad for Tom Felton for the stain this could leave on his career. I hope he gets a better role soon.

A 25 year old girl playing the younger sidekick is fine, but don't say her character is TWELVE. Sir, that is a grown woman. Glad to see Tom Felton in a lead role. Overall the acting, story, and special effects were mediocre. Not terrible, I finished it. I am in no rush to rewatch it. Gattaca did it better.
I'm so, so happy to see Tom in a leading role and getting to do cool things. That being said, some of the dialogue was somewhat awkward, and it didn't seem like the actress who played Chloe had much experience. Tom definitely carries the movie in places, but the other actors are clearly putting their all into it. There were also weird moments when it sounded like the lines of side characters were dubbed in.
Some positives are the design of the suit is really cool, there's a predictable but interesting twist, and the fights and effects are quite good.
This isn't a masterpiece, but it's a fun action/ sci-fi movie and the low reviews are super exaggerated. Please give it a watch!

The writing and dialogue were so bad, there is not a single redeeming aspectabout this horrible attempt at science fiction, seemingly written by AI trained on the most eye-rolling clichés of science fiction. Maybe if it truly had been written by AI, they could've saved enough money to afford a dialect coach, because oof.
"Alter" is a lighthearted, funny film with an important message that's definitely worth watching. I've been following Timo Vuorensola's work for a long time, and I'm glad he's created a new and engaging project in his signature style. His ironic take on the genre, his ability to talk about serious things with humor and ease while building a coherent and relatable world, are truly admirable.
It was a pleasure to see Tom Felton in such an unusual role - he's a great actor who really deserves more screen time. The entire cast felt very balanced and talented. I especially want to mention Liza Bugulova - a young talent I hadn't seen before, but will definitely keep an eye on from now on.
It's not a festival masterpiece or a big Marvel blockbuster, but "Alter" - though at times simple and even a bit naïve - is a cohesive, engaging, and heartfelt film that made for a truly enjoyable evening.

It really is bad, I hope you check the reviews before watching. I usually don't mind a poor reviewed film if it has a mutant type genre, but this sucks.
The script was poor, the plot was bad, the hero was lame. The trailer was good enough to make me want to watch it though.
Watch the trailer and leave it at that and enjoy your time doing something else.
