As an amputee myself I sometimes found myself thinking "well yeah, obviously" to much of what was discussed in the film. But I reminded myself that for someone who isn't an amputee or isn't close to one this could all be new information! I'd love to see non adaptive athletes get inspired by the athletes featured in the movie. Being an adaptive athlete may require some different equipment or creative thinking but it's entirely possible. I'd also like to see more focus on the mental health aspects of sports and exercise in general. Physical activity is such an essential part of emotional well being.
I loved the entire movie. The amputee athletes presented very honest reports on what happened and how they overcame their obstacles. The importance of the support of their coaches, parents, peer visitors, prosthetists and physical therapists was emphasized. The emotional benefits of participating are highlighted. This movie is perfect for the amputee athlete interested in competitive sports. Contacts for further resources are given. Loved the resources mentioned for college level sports.
The next movie I would love to see would be one that targets pediatric amputees and how to get them involved. I have watched young kids participate in wheelchair basketball and see many benefits to the kids, their parents, and their able bodied friends.
I would also love to see a movie targeted at older amputees, or those that just want to be more a part of a community and just participate, rather than be competitive athletes.
This movie was a great start. I am beyond excited to see the progress made over the past 40 years in the world of amputee sports.
Congrats to the producers. I loved every minute of the movie and highly recommend it to both the amputees and the able bodied athletes. Learning on both sides is helpful.

I found the Power of Sports for Amputees to be very inspiring. Marci Krown does an excellent job of capturing the essence of several amazing amputee athletes while at the same time educating the layperson about the need to support the limbless community.
I really liked how the film told the story of different amputees who have been making the most of their challenges with honest insights into their challenges. It helps put things in perspective whenever I think something isn't possible or wasn't meant to be. They just don't give up!
I was fortunate to also have had the opportunity to meet a couple of the featured amputee athletes in person and they truly have incredible mindsets to triumph over adversity. They work hard and lead the way for others to see the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle by taking advantage of the technology that's available and the support of peers and other allies.

This thoughtful, well-made film addresses many aspects of limb loss with clarity. Marci Krown skillfully weaves into a meaningful work of art, stories of accomplished athletes with people who have had a positive impact on their lives. The critical role of family, friends, coaches and the scientific community in facing the challenges and celebrating the success of an amputee is a powerful theme of the film. The educational significance of The Power of Sports for Amputees cannot be overstated. Accordingly, including it in the national K-12 curriculum would have a profound, positive societal impact.
"The Power of Sports For Amputees", a documentary by Marci Krown, was premiered tonight. It was quite eye opening as to the mental and physical hurdles that the athletes face. Whether born with a limb loss, or a loss through illness or an accident, the power of sports to change their lives is awesome. And the frustration of trying to get prosthetics suitable for sports is an education! There is also some footage on how the prosthetics are created. Drawing attention to how essential sports are to physical and mental health is very inspirational, and the determination of these athletes is incredible!
