Saint Catherine

As I stumbled upon the 2024 horror movie "Saint Catherine", from writer Gonzalo Mellid and directors Michael Escobedo, Juan de Dios Garduño, Hana Kazim, Gonzalo Mellid and Raffael Oliveri, here in 2025, of course I opted to watch it. Sure, I had never even heard about the movie prior to watching it, so I didn't know what I was in for, aside from what I had read in the synopsis.

And the movie's cover definitely helped to win me over and making me give the movie a fair chance, as I do enjoy all things horror.

The storyline in the movie was okay, but somewhat generic. I have to say that I was a bit confused with the storyline, but it turned out that the movie was divided into small segments, so it was essentially an anthology, and that is why the narrative felt so disjointed. If you've seen one or more possession movies, then there is little new to be experienced in the "Saint Catherine" movie, and I have to say that I found it a rather bland viewing experience. I don't know if it was because writer Gonzalo Mellid delivered a mediocre script, or if it was because there was simply too many directors at the helm.

The acting performances in the movie were fair.

There were a few special effects in the movie, and they proved to be fair enough.

"Saint Catherine" didn't really entertain me much, and I struggled to keep an interest in the narrative, as the anthology just wasn't all that well-constructed.

The movie's cover was actually the best part about the entire ordeal.

My rating of "Saint Catherine" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

I've given this an average rating for a reason.

The good thing were the colour grading, the pacing of scenes. A film to pass the time.

However. The movie felt all over the place to the point I wondered what was going on. It felt to be an anthology movie. The main character(s) didn't have central focus, and it appeared that a watcher may be wrong regarding who's the main protagonist. I wondered how the things that were included in the film tied in with the main premise because they seemed to venture out of that. I think it tried to be more symbolic, perhaps even a bit mysterious, but failed with the execution. It would have helped to have more context regarding what was happening with the scenes.
