Avis à la une
An impressive debut from director Troy Blackman, Minerva is both moving and deeply thought-provoking.
Its black-and-white aesthetic enhances the film's darkness, both visually and thematically. Memory, connection, abuse, and the toll of dementia are explored in unsettling, often haunting ways.
Vera was intentionally hard to watch at times - a credit to the actress who played the role so well.
The film left our group with lots of lingering questions and differing interpretations of what unfolded, adding to the experience.
Like other reviews have mentioned, I am looking forward to seeing what comes next from Troy.

From the opening scene, you know you need to be ready to spiral down as you watch two minds journey and unravel into dark places. The filmmaker's choice to film in black and white contributed to the unsettled feeling as I questioned the perception of the characters, let alone my own! I walked away feeling curious and wanting to know more about the motivations and backstories of the characters. I'm looking forward to a rewatch to take in the subtle moments I missed. The ending left me speechless and I needed some time to process.
It does make me ponder - how well do I really know the people around me??

Fantastic performances and great direction this drive this great first feature film by Troy Blackman.
Was lucky enough to see this in an advance screening. You're left with lots of feeling and not many answers. Black and white visuals really elevate those feelings. Definitely a love it or hate it, kind of film. While not a film I'd typically see, I was still thoroughly entertained and engaged.
Sandra was the standout but all the performances were fantastic, which in this kind of film can make or break it. In this case, definitely made it.

Vineyard Ablaze is a debut feature-length from writer and director, Troy Blackman. It surrounds the life of Vera, a former singer now suffering from dementia and receiving care from her granddaughter. The tragic first sequence, immediately casts the viewer in doubt as we immediately realise that Vera may not only be a danger to herself - but to others.
The plot is interrupted by flashbacks from Vera's past, unravelling a little of her backstory at a time. As these events become more painful, the viewer remains poised, wondering to what extent the deterioration of her faculties, will give way to a desire for vengeance, and whether this will ever be realised.
