  • Unintended irony diminishes credibility, but...

As others have noted the irony of the wealthy class making a film about poverty while they go back to the exact same lifestyles they parody in the film gives this good intentioned film and unintended level of uncomfortable irony.

Particularly Seth Rogan sits uncomfortably in the mess, but Keanu Reeves is known for his generosity of spirit so I guess that counters it somewhat, but we live in complex times and who'd have thought we would subconsciously be weighing up the worthiness of the creators to discuss the important topic of exploitation and poverty in the west. The fact that it is a consideration is a point the filmmakers missed and it does bring their effort down a notch and diminish the credibility of the effort to not have thought it through enough to have factored this into their film. Rich kids complaining about poverty..... That said the film was a good conversation starter and did get people thinking about the hand to mouth existence and exploitive world we've allowed to be created.

It didn't have any real answers but the ride was pretty funny and it succeeded on the entertainment level, but the topic they pinned it to was real world struggle.

All in all a complicated path with inconclusive outcomes, but I'm still glad they made it.

  • A huge underrated achievement in story telling

This series is all the more powerful for the limitations it put upon itself, one man, one camera, one location (ok, it's a moving car but still it's the same camera angle and position throughout) for the entire series.

Everything hinges on Rob Brydon's performance and the story he weaves with a classy script. And you really have to pay attention because one small sentence or a look or movement gives an important detail in this intriguing story of the seemingly last nice guy trying to do the good thing in a selfish world.

This is subtle storytelling that does not spell it all out and hammer out the punch lines. It requires attention and effort and rewards the view with true depth and meaning.

The final shot of this episode is a case in point. It's left open ended but you are shown all you need to know. Perfect.

  • Embarrassing

This hurts the legacy of many of the actors in this travesty of a film. The guy from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul spends his time making mindless drivel like this.

Not that I was ever a fan of Sharon Stone but this performance should get her banned for life, and a definite Raspberry award.

Christopher Lloyd's role seems like elder abuse. He could hardly deliver his lines and those lines were so terrible it seemed like he was on meds and they were taking advantage of an incapacitated old man.

    Just awful.
