I've been watching South Park since I was a teenager when it first came out and I can safely say it's been absolutely hilarious the whole time. It's one of the rare shows where I actually laugh out loud when watching by myself. Like any show some seasons are better than others but none are considered bad and lately it's been as funny as it's ever been. South Park is definitely not for children and written for adults. Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman and the rest of these hilarious characters have been around for 25+ years and it doesn't seem like they're going anywhere anytime soon and I for one will be here watching and laughing as long as they're on.
I just started watching The Newsroom recently with my brother and it's every bit as good as everyone says it is. I'm about a decade late to the party but at least I finally got here. The story is about a fictional cable news network led by lead news anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels). The episodes are written about recent news events by a staff that takes its jobs very seriously but corporate and personal obstacles keep getting in their way. The Newsroom might be Aaron Sorkin's best work of his hall of fame career. It's fascinating from the beginning to the very end. All you have to do is read through the reviews here to see how loved this show really is.
Tracker is every bit as good as the reviews here have pointed out. It's about a man named Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) who's dad raised him giving him tools to be a survivalist. He uses those skills and his natural instincts to find missing people and collect rewards. He has team that includes a lawyer, a business handler and tech expert that helps him find these people. Colter will do any and everything to find these missing people. I'm not saying this is the best show that in tv but it is quite the entertaining show. This is a procedural show that has a new case every week. Justin Hartley absolutely kills it as the lead here and makes the show worth watching. It's the #1 show on tv and currently has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes so it's liked by both the audience and critics.
Foundation is definitely a must watch for any sci-fi fan. I never read the source material and it seems that most of the people who don't like this are mad because it's not exactly like the book. Some people don't understand that these shows and movies are adapted or based off the source material. Some parts are a little slow and throws the pace off a little as it builds its world but it's not slow in a bad way. Nothing about this show is bad. The visuals are as good as anything you'll find on tv. You can tell they put a lot of money into it and it shows. This also has some great characters that will make you invested in the show and actually care about what happens to them. I have to give a special mention to Lee Pace, he's one of the most underrated actors out there and his performance in this is nothing short of incredible. Foundation has ended up surprising me then just about any show that I can remember. It really has become one of my favorite sci-fi shows that I've ever seen.
Last Samurai Standing is one of the better action series I've seen this year and I'm not being hyperbolic. It takes place in the late 1800's where 292 samurai warriors get together for a battle royale for 100 billion yen. Every fighter gets a wooden tag and it's their job to get the others tags by any means necessary. The last survivor reaching Tokyo wins. This show was so good that I binged through all 6 episodes in one day. I really hope they make several more seasons of this.
I have to admit going into Death by Lightning I knew very little about James Garfield and his assassination other than the basics. I just binged through all four episodes in one sitting and was blown away by how captivating it was. It's about how President James Garfield (Michael Shannon) rose from obscurity to become America's 20th President and then man who killed him, Charles Guiteau (Matthew Macfayden). If you're a fan of historical or political dramas then give this a try but make sure you give yourself enough time because once you start it you wont want to stop.
Running point is a solid comedy with a bunch of likable characters that make this show worth watching. You don't have to be a sports fan to like this either, I am so the little basketball it does have is just a bonus for people like me. Kate Hudson is as great and beautiful as always and Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarber bring plenty of laughs. I think they wanted this to be the next Ted Lasso and it's not close to as good as that but if you're looking for a fun show that you can binge through and have some laughs then give Running Point a try.
M. Night Shyamalan's mystery thriller, Wayward Pines, is everything I hoped it would be and more. Wayward Pines is a mysterious small town in Idaho where visitors struggle to understand the origins and mysteries of it and how to get out of it. A civil war is brewing in the town and questions about of the human race is in danger. It reminds me of From or Twin Peaks, not as quite as good but still good. Besides having a big name director it has an even better cast that's full of Oscar and Emmy nominees and winners. This is such an interesting and original show that you're going to want to binge it as quickly as you can. So make sure to give yourself enough time because once you start it you wont want to stop.
The Outsider is a suspenseful supernatural thriller that will have you guessing throughout the entire season. David Fincher created another hit in a long line of them for him. This isn't his best show but it's still pretty darn good. The Outsider is based off Steven Kings novel and is one of his better adaptations to tv. It starts off with what seems like a straight forward ugly killing of a kid. But when a supernatural creature is brought into the equation it leads the investigators to question everything they believe in. It has a fantastic cast led by Jason Bateman, Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo.
I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed Halt and Catch Fire. It started a little slow but I stayed with it after reading all the great reviews by both critics and the audience and I'm glad I did because after a few episodes I couldn't stop watching. I binged through the entire series as fast as I could. It takes place in the early 80's and follows a small group of people who come together and risk everything to build a computer that's going to change the world as we know it. The cast is fantastic led by the always terrific Lee Pace, Scott McNairy, Makenzie Davis and Kerry Bishé. I'm warning you, if you're going to start watching this to give yourself enough time because once you start it you're not going to want to stop.
I'm a big Ethan Hawke fan so I was looking forward to watching this as soon as I heard about it. Well, this not only met my expectations but surpassed them in every way. Both critics and the audience seem to love The Lowdown, it currently has a ridiculously good 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and the main reason why is because of Ethan Hawke. He leads a terrific cast who are all at the top of their game here. This series has a little of everything...comedy, drama, mystery, action, etc. It's absolutely one of the surprise hits of 2025 and I hope we get more seasons of this. I can't recommend this show enough!
Devil in Disguise has gotten nothing but great reviews by both critics and the audience alike, it currently has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of that I has high expectations. This not only met those expectations but surpassed them. I binged all 8 episodes over the weekend. It's a very well acted and written true crime series. Obviously, everyone feels bad for the victims and their families but where other serial killer series focuses more on showing how brutal the murders were and try to shock you, this concentrates more on the effect it had on the victims families. All the actors do a good job in this but it's Michael Chernus as John Wayne Gacy who stands out the most.
Game of Thrones was one of my favorite shows of all-time so I couldn't wait for House of the Dragon. I've now caught up and seen every episode so far and my main takeaway is...this should be and could've been a lot better. While it's already another hit for HBO I think that has to be on name alone. If this wasn't a spin-off I don't think it would be doing so well. People have to be watching because they liked GoT and are waiting for this to be as good. Well, we're now two seasons into it and this is not GoT quality. I've never read the books to these shows so I had no expectations when it came to that but I wouldn't care if it varied from the source material even if I did. I don't get why so many people care if a movie/show is different from the source material. As long as it's entertaining...who cares? They have to adapt these books for the screen. Well, this is not entertaining. Sure, there are a few minutes here and there but overall disappointing.
I just finished watching The Terminal List: Dark Wolf and while it's not quite as good as the original with Chris Pratt, it's still really good and definitely worth your time to watch. Actually, some people might even enjoy this one more...it's that good. Dark Wolf is a prequel origin story of Taylor Kitsch's character, Ben Edwards. It shows his journey from the Navy Seals to his time working for the CIA Special Operations. Chris Pratt is also back in a smaller role. This is a gritty spy thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. If you like action you'll love this because it's full of it, it never lets up from the beginning to the end. I cannot recommend this series enough...I absolutely loved it.
Just starting watching Invasion with my brother and have to say that I really enjoyed it so far. It does start a little slow while it builds its world and characters up but I don't mind that. It does a good job of making you actually care about what happens to these characters. I don't understand why there are so many mixed reviews. If you like this kind of sci-fi genre then there's no reason not to like this. The acting and writing are both great as are the visuals. I'm glad that it did well enough to warrant another season because there's definitely still more story to tell. The biggest problem is we have to wait two years in between seasons and by then I've forgotten most of what happened.
Glen Powell is terrific in Chad Powers. He's terrific in just about everything he does but this really stands out as one of his best performances. Chad Powers is about a disgraced college quarterback (Powell) who disguises himself as Chad Powers on a bad football team to try to revive his football career. What follows is a very entertaining and fun series that you'll have a hard time to stop watching it. This show knows what it wants to be and doesn't try to be anything else. If you're looking for a fun new show that you'll have a good time watching then give Chad Powers a try...you won't be disappointed.
House of Guinness is a new show from Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). It has that same look and feel as PB. It's about the Guinness family after its founder dies in 1868 and leaves its empire in the hands of his four children, each with problems and secrets of their own. It may start slow for some but stay with it because after the first couple episodes it really picks up. It's a good period series about power, greed, betrayal and back stabbing. Bottom line is while House of Guinness isn't nearly as good as PB, it's still a pretty good show that's worth watching.
As a big fan of The Boys I've been looking forward to Gen V ever since I first heard about it. Then after seeing the trailers my excitement grew even more. After finishing the first season I can absolutely say that without a doubt Gen V has not only met my expectations but has exceeded them in every way. It's as fast paced and entertaining as the The Boys series. Even though you'd probably enjoy this more if you've seen the The Boys, you don't have to have seen them to like this. The action scenes are as good as anything I've seen on tv, as exciting and as ridiculous as they are in The Boys. This spin-off actually connects to the original in major ways. You need to watch this so you can follow the story better in the newest season of The Boys. I can't stop watching this and really hope they plan on doing several seasons of this because I'm hooked.
I don't even know how to describe how much I love Spartacus, both the original and the prequel. I've watched the entire series all the way through at least four or five times because it's just that good. All you have to is read through the reviews to see how beloved this series is. The entire cast is just incredible. I think most people thought when Andy Whitfield tragically died and they had to recast the role of Spartacus that it would drop in quality. It didn't! As good as Whitfield was, Liam McIntyre stepped in and was just as good. Now Spartacus: Gods of the Arena was the prequel before Spartacus. It has most of the cast outside Spartacus himself and the story is fantastic. It will grab your attention from the first episode and hold it throughout the series. If you haven't seen this amazing show yet stop what you're doing right is and go watch it!
There have been plenty of Alien projects that have come out over the years since the original trilogy and while some have been watchable and the other down right awful, this is closer to the unwatchable ones than the watchable. Somehow, it's gotten nothing but great reviews from critics and split from fans of the franchise. It actually currently has a fantastic 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Alien: Earth is about when a mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth and a ragtag group of soldiers, led by a woman named Wendy, have to make the discovery that will put them up against the greatest threat the planet has ever seen. What follows is a series that looks like it was made for kids and not adults.
Black Rabbit is about when an owner of one of the hottest restaurants in New York (Jude Law) lets his troubled brother (Jason Bateman) back around the family business he brings a whole lot of trouble for both him and his brother. So much so that it threatens to bring down the business and endanger their lives. This is a tense crime story with really interesting characters that will hold your attention throughout each episode. I binged all 8 episodes in only two days. I can't say enough about Bateman and Law. They were terrific. I wouldn't be shocked to see them nominated for some awards for this, especially Bateman.
What can be said about Adolescence that hasn't already been said? Adolescence is about how a family's life is turned upside down when their 13yr old son is arrested for murdering a classmate. The first thing I need to bring up is just how cool they shot this show, it had to be extremely hard for everyone involved. What they did was shoot every single episode in one long camera shot. No editing or going from one person to another. It was crazy and had to incredibly tough. It killed at the Emmy's last night by winning a bunch of awards, six to exact. It also has a ridiculous 98% on Rotten Tomatoes too. Bottom line is Adolescence is a powerful and outstanding series.
Task is a new crime drama from HBO and I can't say enough about how great this series is. This series is about a Task Force led by an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) who has to put an end to a string of violent robberies by a family name (Tom Pelfrey). Ruffalo and Pelfrey give memorizing performances that you just can't stop watching. HBO hit another home run with this limited series. We've seen stories like this before, the car and mouse game between the police and the criminal so a show really has to be great to stand out and Task definitely does that. It's a masterful series that's one of the must see shows this year. I can't say enough not recommend this show enough so do yourself a favor and go watch this as soon as you can..
I've been looking forward to Countdown ever since I first saw the trailer for this. I started watching this with my brother the day it came out and we both loved it. It all starts and ends with another strong performance from Jensen Ackles. He plays LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited to a secret task force with undercover agents from all different types of law enforcement. They're brought together to hunt for a killer who murdered an officer with Homeland Security. As they investigate they find out a plot much worse than one murder victim. From there they have to race against time to save millions of people. There is plenty of action and drama to keep you wanting more. I can't recommend this series enough.
1923 is the next prequel to Yellowstone after 1883 and like those two shows this is just as incredible! As a huge fan of those two shows I was really looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. It continues to follow the Dutton family and show how they created the Yellowstone ranch. This obviously takes place in 1923 during prohibition and the Great Depression. It's another gritty western from Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan is one of the best things going on television right now, everything he touches turns to gold. Just look at his resume (Yellowstone, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Sicario, Hell or High Water, etc.). Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren lead an amazing cast who are all at their best here. Season 2 just ended recently and I'd be shocked if this show doesn't end up at least getting nominated for numerous awards.
