Companion is a very good thriller that could end up as one of the more underrated movies of the year. It's a thriller but there is a lot more comedy in the film than you would expect there to be. Sophie Thatcher (Iris) gives a standout performance in this movie, she was great as always. Jack Quaid (Josh) was very good in this as well, I'm glad to see him get more lead roles in films. I'm not going to spoil anything and if you're looking to dodge spoilers, avoid the trailer for this movie. It is definitely best to go in blind for this one. There a couple good twists along the way and this is definitely a film that will keep your eyes glued to the screen from start to finish. Worth a watch!
Nosferatu is a haunting gothic horror love story. In my opinion, it is Robert Eggers best film he's done to date. Lily-Rose Depp (Ellen Hutter) and Bill Skarsgård (Count Orlok) give chilling performances. Nicholas Hoult (Thomas Hutter), Willem Dafoe (Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz), and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Friedrich Harding) are exceptional in this movie as well. Really great casting all around for this film. The cinematography is perfect, Robert Eggers does a masterful job at using the shadows to his advantage. Every scene in this movie is visually stunning. From the moment the film begins there is a sense of dread that sets in and you can feel it creeping closer and closer throughout the film every time a character says "He is coming". Overall, this a really well made film that any movie lover, not just horror, should watch and appreciate.
Carry-On is a very solid action thriller that will keep you engaged the whole film. Taron Egerton (Ethan Kopek) is very good in this, I think he has solidified himself as an action star. He takes a note out of Tom Cruise's book in this movie and does a lot of running. Jason Bateman (The Traveler) also shines in this one as the villain, a type of role I'd like to see him in more often. It takes a little bit to get going in this movie but once it takes off, it's nonstop action. Anyone who loves action films, I feel like will appreciate this one. There is some really cool camera shots in it as well. It's just a really fun Christmas action/thriller that is perfect for the holidays!
