Some reviewers were disappointed with this documentary because it didn't meet their expectations. All I can say is that this is real life. It's an honest, gutting look at a man's experience with ALS and everything that comes with it.
As someone recently diagnosed with an incurable, debilitating muscle condition, there was a lot here I could relate to-which made it especially hard to watch. But it was real, and I appreciated that. I also appreciated the way they included the religious side of things, because I was similarly told that with enough faith I could be healed. The false hope, the disappointment from others, and the eventual letdown only add to the grief. And I appreciated how the documentary allowed viewers to feel some of the grief that loved ones go through.
Truthfully, the documentary was devastating, but I'm glad they made it. And if you're reading this review-wherever life finds you-enjoy each day and everything you can, while you can. It's a wonderful world.

The acting was outstanding, but it was the story that truly moved me. I had no idea Garfield was such a man-and what a timely reminder of the kind of character the office of President deserves. I was deeply touched by his generosity, integrity, humility, and decency. I saw a man who loved his family, loved his country, and simply wanted to do what was right.
But I was also moved by the other man, whose madness drove him to the unthinkable. His was, in its own way, a tragic story-a man with mental illness who could not overcome the wounds of his childhood, who longed to be somebody, to be admired, to make a difference, and who died after a lonely and miserable existence.
There are many good lessons here.
