He is a former Marine and an avid poker player.

He appears in the opening sequence (uncredited) of every "Lou Grant" episode from 1978 to 1982. Like the other cast members, he is conducting an interview by phone, in this case asking how much money was missing - whether it was over a thousand dollars. (He is the last person to speak, before the theme music rolls.).

He appears in the opening sequence of Lou Grant but is not credited. He is credited in the closing credits.

2 Daughters: Allison (Allie) and Carrie. One son: Jake.

Allen was an acting teacher at The Beverly Hills Playhouse with director Milton Katselas.

Proudly welcomed a grandson into the world, Mason Allen Williams-Locke and expecting another new addition to the Williams clan sometime in early 2012.
